Hi Twisty Puzzles fans, Hexagonish Block was inspired by ideas from Anthony Villaveiran and Carl Hoff, posted at the Twisty Puzzles Forum. The top of this puzzle can always turn. The sides can only turn when one half-center matches up with another one. The puzzle can be considered a bandaged puzzle. It does not jumbles as it can be fully unbandaged, in theory, into a puzzle with 15-fold symmetry. Watch the YouTube video. Buy the puzzle at my Shapeways Shop. Read more at the Shapeways Forum. Check out the photos below. Enjoy! Oskar Attachment:

So would building an unbandaged version even be possible?
Also, wow. It looks like at the top is a heart surrounded by blood vessels...

Such an amazing and creative puzzle! The pattern of the cuts completely and utterly confuses me beyond comprehension. Another fantastic, law-breaking, puzzle Oskar.

So, what would the fully unbandaged version look like?

Yet another amazing puzzle from Oskar! Every time I see a topic ending in "by OSKAR" I go "Oh -insert deity of your choice-, what incredible puzzle has he come up with now? Jeffery Mewtamer wrote: So, what would the fully unbandaged version look like? I was wondering the same thing myself!

Before I say anything else, let me say this: It's a brilliant puzzle. portal1920 wrote: Jeffery Mewtamer wrote: So, what would the fully unbandaged version look like? I was wondering the same thing myself! You can pretty much see it already. Just extend the visible cuts so they go all the way through the puzzle and you're most of the way there. Unless I'm missing something there is only one cut that isn't represented at all on a solved face. GoombaGeek wrote: So would building an unbandaged version even be possible? It seems to be like the major problem would be size. An unbandaged version would have four types of pieces not on this puzzle, all of them smaller than the smallest piece on this puzzle, each of them progressively smaller than the last. Making those pieces large enough to fulfill their roles in an unbandaged puzzle would mean scaling up the whole thing, and that would make the resulting puzzle absurdly huge. I think. Absurdly might be overstating it. Anyway, the puzzle's diameter would need to be more than 15 times as long as the longest side of the smallest piece. If I'm looking at things right. Of course in terms of being within the realm of physical possibility, absolutely.

Oskar,
In the video you state the puzzle has 3 turning axes. Doesn't it have 4? 3 which line in the same plane and the 4th one perpendicular to the others.

You could also easily cut this down to a symmetrical shape (a cylinder for example) and then it would never change shape. Carl

I might think that it would be problematic to build due to the relative size of some of the pieces, but there's nothing wrong with it in theory. Its cuts are as symmetric (or non-symmetric if you prefer) as a UFO. It would not jumble.

Looks like the unbandaged version is a Pentdecagonal prism that has the cuts moved inward to produce pyraminx crystal-style edges and shape modified into a hexagonal prism.
