Hi Twisty Puzzles fans,

Bubble Block was inspired by ideas from Anthony "Bubbles" Villaveiran and Carl Hoff, posted at the Twisty Puzzles Forum. Four of the corners of this puzzle can turn, taking the other pieces with them. The puzzle has a quite unusual geometry. It jumbles, it is fudged and is is "boublezized". P.S. Matt, you impressed me by being able to replicate the geometry of my Fairly Twisted puzzle, and teach me something new about it. What can you say about the geometry of Bubble Block?

Imagine how people would've reacted 20 years ago if they knew so many strange concepts would've been created by twisty puzzle fans

Now a few questions. Oskar, is this an oblate rhombohedron? If so I'm curious as to why this particular shape? Your 3D PDF is a sphere so I assume you could have just as easily made this a cube. Since you didn't I believe I must be missing something. Your difficulty explaining the geometry of this puzzle is not surprising. Ever since you first presented this idea here I have been trying to get my head wraped around it and I'm still failing to see exactly how you've done what you've done.

Oh and I just noticed your 3D PDF is called TetraBoublez v4... why not make this as a Tetrahedron? The final shape you selected just appears very odd (not that it looks bad) it just screams at me why and I think highlights my lack of understanding. GREAT JOB!!! Both at making this puzzle and making me think.

It's nice to see this finally take form, and I'm quite impressed with the results. Another fantastic puzzle Oskar!

Also, wwwmwww, I'm guessing the third puzzle is the Hexagonish Block or Hexed mixup?

I think we as a comunity are getting much better at having actionable puzzle ideas come out of our discussions. Between boublez's thread and the spin off topic started by David Pitcher I think we are now up to 4 puzzles that weren't only actionable but which have now been built and I suspect there are several more to come. A few by me yet I hope.

I just love that attitude... something can't be done or we're doing it wrong... well we will show you!!

Yes, I could have made any shape-mod of choice. I chose this shape, because it minimizes the number of different pieces, while retaining flat stickerable surfaces.

I typically normalize my puzzles to the volume of a classical Rubik's Cube. Shape-modding to a tetrahedron would have made pieces that are already small even smaller.

This should provide you with sufficient information to deduce the geometry of the puzzle and the outer shape.

Fantastic work, as always! It amazes me how quickly you're able to produce new puzzles.

The shapes of the "bubbles" are reminiscent of the curving cuts seen in the original renderings of what has now become the Mosaic Block. Which makes me wonder if anyone has taken steps to make that idea a physical reality? Carl?

Yes, I plan on making a few of these with the spherical cuts after I finish my Slice turn only Mixup Master Skewb (the SMMS for short). Things have been slowed down a bit as I'm stuck in the middle of not 1 but 2 moves. I rented out my home in Mississippi so I had to get everthing out of there last month and this month I'm moving out my appartment and into a rental house myself. It will be a little bit before things return to a normal pace. I'm also still learning Solid Works so I'm no where near the speed of Oskar yet.
