He's been working on this for a while. I hope this pic means it's close to being produced.

First thread I can recall: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=14865&p=178907

Yay! I've been waiting for a while for them to produce this. The pillowedness is a little perculiar in my opinion, but otherwise this is really cool! :)

Awesome! I've loved this one since DaYan's version. This could potentially be modded into a master tetrahedron, if you could get the circles "babyfaced." :D

I knew this was coming! Oh, well, I should probably get a job over the summer for the puzzles coming out.
Kapusta wrote:

It would be quite difficult since you have to use the extended circle pieces to hold in extra parts not seen on this puzzle. On the other hand, a master skewb would be more suitable for such a mod.

Wow! It looks amazing. I would have preferred it to be either more or less pillowed- this in-between does look somewhat strange.
Even though it technically is just a glorified super-skewb, solving would probably be more difficult due to the strange shapes of the 'multi-pieces'.

Argh! Not only coloured plastic, but planets??? Come on! Besides, surely there can only be four different planets (normal Circle Tetrahedron, one bandaged face, two bandaged faces and three bandaged faces). They shouldn't be planets unless there are at least eight possible combinations.

I agree, I would buy this in a heart beat if it was a solid colour.
I don't see why MF8 keep producing the multicoloured versions and not just white or black.

I'm personally very disappointed with MF8 for making another crazy planet series. I was sincerely hoping that each circle would not turn, and am disappointed and frustrated to say I will not be buying any of these.

I don't like the coloured plastic either although i have just relented and bought 2 crazy 3x3's in it, however (unless i change my mind when i get them) i don't think i'll be buying these in it.

Maybe they will sell these with some spare parts to allow people to mix and match the bandaging?
There are simply too many great puzzles available now to buy several of essentially the same thing. In my opinion of course.

I think this is a marketing stunt on MF8's behalf. They'll (at least that's the hope) sell more when there are 8 different combinations of the same puzzle. Honestly, I'm getting fed up with the 8 planet-series and really wish they would have left it with the 3x3x3's. Maybe some people will appreciate this though, but I see no other reason than the money factor as to why they have decided to not make a normal (all circles stationary) circle puzzle first.

Regarding the colored plastic: it is not all that bad. I hated them at first, but I now own the crazy 3x3x3 plus series and although I would have preferred stickers I don't mind the colored plastic anymore.

Like it's way easyer for them to put colored plastic, cause when they sticker them, cause of the circl,e it's harder in a sence, to put it perfectly in place, and if they did an bad stickering just, people will not be happy and say that the puzzle is bad quality.

Honestly, MF8, I would own your circle megaminx, 3x3 AND tetrahedron, if that's what they were- circle puzzles. Instead, I own NONE of them, because I'm not interested in these "crazy" puzzles at all. To make matters worse, I could potentially buy two and combine them to make the ones I want, however you make this difficult because of colored plastic, which I find less attractive than black or white plastic. (While I don't speak for everyone, I'm pretty sure there are a good number of people who would agree with me.)

Why not try releasing even a limited edition of black plastic, standard circle tetrahedrons, once you've sold as many of these as possible? I bet the market size is a good deal larger.

And I would bet you are wrong. I'll paraphrase a paraphrase and state: Mf8 and DaYan can put one million cubes in the hands of the Chinese players-can the rest of the world say the same????

You see, there are more people there playing with puzzles and willing to buy them than there are people in the western world who would do the same...

Colored cubes-they are meeting the needs/wants of the market. (That, and it is a whole lot easier to put together)

Aww, coloured plastic. I was kind of excited when I saw the black prototype at the start of the thread. I think stickered versions would sell really well, even if they were sold a slightly higher price to compensate for any sdifficulty in producing stickers to fit.

I have a question for any who may know, but which is cheaper?

1) The cost of doing a run of X number of puzzles in black/white plastic and selling them with stickers (either applied or as DIY)
2) The cost of doing a run of X number of puzzles in Y number of colors of plastic (depending on how many the puzzle needs)

I do not know anything about the quality of various plastics, but to me it seems that multiple colors of plastic would be costly. However, the cost of printing stickers in that large of quantity is most likely costly as well. Either way, I think it's great that a crazy tetrahedron has been made, but I do wish for a normal circle puzzle instead.

Chris

Sorry to pile on, but I am also very disappointed to see that the circle tetrahedron is colored plastic and crazy. I was very excited about the prototypes, but I have no interest in the crazy variations. Even if it the tetrahedron is as easy to mod into a standard circle puzzle as the 3x3s the colored plastic is so unappealing to me that I will be passing on these. MF8, please consider selling an all black/white DIY kit; this would get around the issue of labor costs to sticker puzzles and reduce the feeling that selling 8 slight variations of a puzzle is a cash grab.

A couple years ago I would have agreed with some of this. I'm a big fan of symetry and non-shape changing puzzles. Now I've designed some of my own shape changing puzzles (Thorny Cube and the Slice Turn only Mixup Master Skewb) and now that I understand the Crazy Plus puzzles a bit more they are starting to grow on me. I even came up with a puzzle which is a super set of the Crazy Plus puzzles even though that wasn't what I was aware I was doing at the time. I now even appreciate the fact that these puzzles add alot more to the circle 3x3x3 then the circle 3x3x3 adds to the normal 3x3x3. A circle 3x3x3 is essentially a super 3x3x3 and you can have that puzzle with a simple sticker mod of a normal 3x3x3. That said... I too want a mass produced circle 3x3x3 and I don't get why someone would go to the trouble to offer all the crazy plus 3x3x3 and then not offer the basic circle 3x3x3. Actually I believe its been said somewhere that the reason the circle 3x3x3 wasn't offered was do to the fact that it had already been designed by someone else and they were wanting to respect the designer of that puzzle by not offering it. I have to go back and check but who made the first circle 3x3x3? And have they objected anywhere to MF8 offering it? If so I haven't seen that. And I believe MF8 was the first to make the circle tetrahedron so I really fail to understand why its not being offered. I personally have NOTHING against them offering as many versions of these puzzles as they want to make. And I'm greatful they are being mass produced. What they are made out of... black plastic, colored plastic, wood, metal, is secondary to me as long as it works well enough to be enjoyable. Stickers peal, wear, discolor, etc so I can see that some might prefer to get away from them. Considering the many members here that mod puzzles with saws and plastic sheet I suspect it wouldn't be that hard to paint one of these black if one wanted to bad enough. I haven't tried but I would think its doable. Personally what I want is these series to be offered as a kit which included all the pieces one needed to make any puzzle in the series. It would be more affordable and take up less shelf space.

Carl

In response to my last post, I can of course understand why MF8 would sell the puzzles with colored plastic because of the market in China. I can see the appeal for both the sellers and the buyers of producing the puzzles like that. However, what is probably the bigger issue in my mind is that there is no production of the basic circle puzzles, only the planet puzzles. Why not produce a run of these puzzles alongside the planets? Maybe even make it one of the planets? I know many of the forum members appreciate the asymmetry of the planets, however I would think this would not extend into the mass market, i.e the public would prefer symmetrical puzzles. (I'm not a marketing/statistics major or anything like that, just judging from experience.)

Don't get me wrong, I think MF8 has done some wonderful things, and will continue to do wonderful things with puzzles. I just don't see why MF8 is producing planets puzzles, instead of/without classic circle puzzles.

I would have to agree with Kapusta with this one. Though I understand that they are a business and they need to appeal to their market to yield the most profit. I do not own any of these crazy puzzles because in my eyes if it's not black, I don't want it. I think that the colored plastic makes them look closer to toys then a collectible puzzle. The bandaging really puts me off to these as well. Consider me sold as soon as a true circle and solid color puzzle is released, it's a shame I was really looking forward to this one.

I don't really have problem with bandaging cause it had an certain difficulty, but they could at less make other version with onlu circle move. Their is other planets, so, and that version could be a limited edition, that could comme in black or white. Im sure that mf8 can do another version, and give another planet name, with no problem, limited edition or not.

Thank You!! However I just tried to order one and I'm running into a problem. On the Shipping Information screen it lists the price as HK$ 201.50. When I click Checkout all the fields on the Payment Method screen are blank, order number, total amount, etc. And at the bottom of the screen it states "No selling prices set for items. Please ask supplier for product details." To make matters worse I'm about to head out of town for a week. I hope these will still be available when I get back.

Carl

By the way, would you PLEASE consider doing the same for your Circle Megaminx and Circle 3x3x3? I did some digging and the first circle 3x3x3 was built by Aleh and presented here.

Aleh, what is your stance on MF8 offering the circle 3x3x3? If its been stated elsewhere already can you please point me to it? I believe its MF8's recognition of you as the maker of the first circle 3x3x3 which is keeping them from offering this puzzle. Your's was built on a V-Cube 5x5x5 so the mech is different and I see no public objection so I believe MF8 is going above and beyond trying to respect the designer here. I'd be very interested in hearing your comments.

Regarding the Circle Megaminx I believe the first one was made by lukeharry and presented here. Though that wasn't a true circle Megaminx as "the centers turn independently" so the circle were more like a babyface Megaminx. The first true circle Megaminx was designed and offered by Puzzlemaster42 and presented here. It's also for sale here for a total cost of $996.80. I couldn't find a video or any pictures of a printed puzzle so its unclear to me is this puzzle has actually been made. Considering the cost I can see why it might not have been ever printed. If that is the case I would think MF8 should be free to offer theirs. But if they are holding out waiting on an "ok" from these designers could you guys comment here?

Thanks,
Carl

EDIT: i finded that, should help lol  :http://www.minorplanetcenter.net/iau/lists/MPNames.html

And i just finded the best name you can, (in this list), Drake :P . Number 9022, if you don't belive me  .

excalvin,

Any chance the Crazy Tetrahedron, 3x3x3, and Megaminx series could be offered for sale as kits like this?

Image

Add a set of black pieces to the mix and anyone that bought 6 kits could make anything they wanted in any color they wanted. Either that or offer all white and all black kits.

Just a few thoughts I wanted to share...

Thanks,
Carl
