I have just received my DaYan Gem II:



I had to sticker it. I used the supplied clear adhesive sheets to put a whole side of stickers on at once. This worked OK for the hexagonal faces. But on the square faces, the very small triangles were too small and I had to put these on by hand one at a time.

Straight out of the box the turning is quite good. The face centred on the yellow stickers can be turned on 90 degree increments, but the face centred on the orange-yellow-green-red piece must be turned 180 degrees.

You know it jumbles right? It's not only 180° but also 70.xxxxxx°

No, this puzzle has 18 axis of turning whereas Master Skewb only has 4.

I think you mean this has 9 axis of turning, 3 which relate to the faces of a cube and 6 which relate to the edges of a cube. Each of these axis has two faces/layers which rotate (not counting the slice layer) so you could say it has 18 faces of turning... but in that sense a Master Skewb would have 8 faces (i.e. corners) which turn.

I still kinda wish it they'd designed it like the Dayan Gem I, aka a proper truncated octahedron, with regular hexagon and square faces. I know this version has more solvable parts, but still...

I got mine today.
It seems to be a mix of a helicopter-cube and a edge-only 3x3x3.
I should better say : mix of a Dayan Gem I and a edge-only 3x3x3.
It jumbles more than Gem I.
That's funny to solve, not much harder than Gem I.
It reminds me the Crazy 4x4x4 II : I know how to solve it but there is something new.
Very good puzzle, it turns smooth.

Mine came yesterday and I applied the stickers on it last night. It is a really great puzzle but I really don't care much for the stickers. Like the Gem I they are so thin that you can see through the yellow and orange. Unlike the Gem I which came with 8 colors for both types of faces, this one comes with only 6 for the 3x3x3 faces (the standard 6 at least) and 8 for the other faces. But I had come up with an unique color scheme with my Gem I which used some of the alternate colors on the 3x3x3 faces so I could not duplicate that same color scheme here. Ideally there would be 14 unique colors to use. Hopefully Cubesmith makes stickers for these puzzles some day.

I agree, the stickers seem to be an unnecessary cost cutting measure. It would have been nice it they had supplied the sort of colour range of stickers which came with the Tuttminx, but then we would have had the "what is the best colour scheme" problem. Ho hum

BUMP, but I have a serious question and a new thread would be the inferior choice.
I have got mine two days ago and I have stickered it today.
The turning is really bad. As others have said that it turns quite well, I'm asking myself what causes the problem.
I've got the transparent version and the plastic seems pretty stiff.
Have others a transparent, too? Especially the Helicopter turns are horrible. I'm not one who is complaining easily and can manage most of my puzzles very well, but here I need sometimes a minute to do a single 180 degree turn.
Most pieces have no caps and they catch on each and every move.
Has anybody had similar problems?
Even when everything is aligned and I have just turned a "face" and I want to turn the very same "face" again, I'll have a problem again.
EDIT: I have tried to get to the screws to loosen them. I could not get a single centre cap off. Any advice?
EDIT2: No response whatsoever! Yesterday I have tried it again and got two centre caps off. The tension of one face was incredibly tight. It turns OK now.
