The name Diabolo is certainly interesting and original. I was going to suggest to call it Hourglass Cube, but after some research, Diabolo is certainly better. Nice puzzle by the way.

Actually, adding the mech wouldn't do anything as the two bicones are connected by a single 3x3x3 corner... :lol:
Certainly an interesting puzzle... by the way, in the first picture, is one of the centers rotated?
