The idea came to my mind this summer, when I got an extra Ball in a Cube. I thought it'd be nice to have the ball of the puzzle stickered with the Globe. Olivér made me the custom stickers in October, but unfortunately I couldn't glue them to the surface. So this week I sent the puzzle back to the contstructor of it (blackout) and after a bit of polishing he managed to put the stickers on.

Original concept of the "Ball in a Cube" puzzle
: Tony Fisher.
Construction and photos: Blackout - he made most of the work. You can also check his other creations.
Stickers: Olivér. It turned out the stickers were good! Just the surface of the puzzle not clean enough first time and lubed.
Idea: Radu.

Here are the photos he sent me today:

Enjoy!

It looks nice but please could you remove the name of the maker since this is an unauthorised copy.

Did you buy the puzzle? or trade something for it?

If not, I dont see a reason to get the name of the maker off. this is just another mod he made (Not his idea of course)
tho if you did trade/buy it, please respect tony's wishes and remove the name of the maker.

Sharon

I think Tony wants the link to the maker's profile removed. This puzzle does not appear on this list and so nobody should be making these for trading/selling. Radu states that he did not make this puzzle himself.

My point is that this was puzzle was not made for "sell or swap" as Tony asks people not to do on his website.

Radu is only showing someone else mod, his friend work, he is not breaking any laws by doing it.
the problem is in case that this puzzle was sold to him.

I will let Radu answer, cuz I know just the same as you.

Either it was traded/sold or Radu got a free puzzle. I don't know for sure, but I don't think it's the latter.

This gives me an idea: how about an LSD ball inside a greyscale cube?

Super cool. Probably the best use I've seen made of these globe stickers to date. :D

I agree with Kapusta. This is a really good idea. It's a shame it's a KO though.

Sorry Tony. I hope you didn't get offended. As others have stated this topic is just to showcase a puzzle. No trade or swap will be made! I know your policy.

I thought (and think) everybody knows you are the original creator of the Ball-In-A-Cube puzzle...like with the Hexaminx which is build nowadays by a lot of people. I didn't even think to mention. My fault, Sorry for this! I also thought it's fair to mention that someone else built the most of this puzzle and my contribution was minor to the building process I think.

Blackout is a very fair guy and you can check in all the topics he made, that he mentions everytime if the idea of the puzzle was from someone else or his own. (for example, the last one: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=20477). Believe me, he is building only for the sake and pleasure of it and doesn't make any money out of this, nor care about a collection! I know it sounds unbelievable to some, but this is the truth. He just likes modding puzzles, by hand. As you can read my first post in this topic : viewtopic.php?f=15&t=19506&p=237047#p237047 - he gave me that puzzle for free (this is dated back in November). Me and blackout are friends and the first "ball in a cube" I got was a present . This "extra" one was a cooperation let's say and moved from one to another many times. The story behind this particular puzzle is quite long and didn't find it appropriate to post it here.

I don't know if it matters, but I would also like to mention that this puzzle moves a bit different compared to the classic Ball-In-A-Cube and this affects also the solve. If you look at the second picture you can see that the internal block (specific to the 4x4ES cubes) was removed and all layers can now turn freely. Btw. the extension pieces of the ball are cast and not original ES, which is again different from the original one. This puzzle was more of an experiment initially, but didn't work and we decided to make a sticker mod out of it.

I hope things are more clear now. If further explanations are needed, please let me know. I will edit immediately the first post. Hope it will be fine.

I love this puzzle so much!
Especially with Earth inside it as opposed to just a ball!
Top score!

I love this idea of the earth, if possible make the outer cube tobe universe.
I saw many ball in cube but I never see complete round of ball.

I would be great to have some stickers with stars, comets .. whatever for the outer cubies. Of course it should be a pattern which still keeps the positioning of the pieces unique.

Maybe black/dark blue with yellow, red, green, blue.. stars. Or satellites :)

Best would be to have transparent pieces with transparent stickers just showing coloured satellites, ISS, tool kit, etc.

Love the stickers, but the "sphere" of the earth doesn't seem to be that spherical...looks more like 6 bulges. Maybe it's just me?

It is sphere! A.... spherical sphere
And... btw, the shape of the earth is a sphere flattened along the axis from pole to pole such that there is a bulge around the equator.

Well on his puzzle it is flattened! Your problem if you just can't see it!

Btw. His puzzle is so realistic as far as the properties of his miniature earth are concerned, it's not only slightly flattened, it even goes around the sun (I mean our real sun) in elliptic axis'. Don't believe me?
