There is a new puzzle from Lanlan called "Master Skewb Puzzle" which will be finished and begin selling on 20th Dec 2010. This kind of cube is 5.7cm with 8 axis. Following are some pictures for reference.

these news! WOW This is also huge because now we can start making mods like rhomb and master skewb ultimate! YAY!! This puzzle has been among a few others ON TOP of my want list! and so, a mass produced one is REALLY mindblowing! The one thing I like the most about this puzzle, is that it is correctly proportional! Finally!!

Oh my.. I have planed buy one from shapeways. But I don't need anymore. It is really good news.. but I'm worried as a person who make puzzle. Because become now differently though master skewb was one of great modding . Scarcity of only master skewb is likely to drop much.

BEST. NEWS. EVER. !!!!!! I just died in front of my computer I just totally freaked out HOly cow holy cow holy cow. But I also have some concerns now, after being done celebrating a party here in front of my screen: Hopefully it is not some rip off. There have been knock-offs on the marked before the original versions where out. And secondly: It seems like the little squares around the center square on each side are longer than broad instead of being broader than long. That's really odd. Doesn't it make the mechanism even more unstable for the corners? Isn't this the oposite to what would actually make sense if you wanted to build a Masterskewb? So my question is what kind of mechanism would this be?

Must. See. Mechanism. Now. Amazing news, though! There were four puzzles I wanted to own by the end of the year, and now I will own 3 of them! (The other two I have are the helicopter cube and the starminx. The Master Tetrahedron hasn't been produced yet, but I'm hopeful...)

I've been wanting one of these for a while. I was on a waiting list for one a long time ago but those lists have died out and were lost.

Even having paid a little fortune for a custom Master Skewb, I think that this is great news for the puzzle community. I really hope that this is not KO (I do not think so). I'll certainly have a second Master Skewb soon (That is, if nobodys legal or moral rights are infringed.)

I usually don't get excited for mass produced puzzles, but I must say, I am very eagerly looking forward to this. As for the mechanism, I would also guess that this is a shelled mechanism with a dino cube at its core. It looks like mass produced puzzles keep getting more shells, maybe we will see some deeper cut puzzle in the future

FML I was almost finished casting one! I'm finished with molding and casting for good now. I will be designing and 3D printing everything from now on.
Aside from that, I will probably snag a couple of these.

I did enlarge the picture and it shows that the pieces that touch the center are not square but rectangular.

I really don't think that such a little bit of disproportion can really be noticeable. Look at the Crazy 2x3x3's, it's hard to tell they don't have cubic cubies. The Trignis' on Mefferts are also disproportioned, and much more noticeably so as well, but it still looks fine. I'm just happy that this puzzle is produced, can't wait to get it! jabeck wrote: Where is the best place to purchase lanlan puzzles from? Lanlan puzzles usually get sold on Lightake.com (remove if I'm not aloud to say the name, but I think I am in this case.) for competitive prices (compared to other sites). With free shipping, Lightake probably offers the best deal. If you live in China it's always best to use Taobao (think eBay) as cubes are usually dirt cheap there. In China you can also find some of these in physical shops, which is always nice.

This is what I call correctly proportional! It's not unproportioned. Its not perfect! But as with MOST puzzles compensations have been made. Look at a Pyraminx, that is one of the best examples! Further, look at the way the rectangles go, its the other way that say Drew's Master Skewb is. Meaning even smaller corners, actually last, I would, ofc, prefer a perfect puzzle. But I think good stickers can compensate a great deal here

Is Tony ok with this? I only ask as he recently revealed that he used the Truncated FTO as his core, which LanLan produce. Subsequently a few months later LanLan produce a Master Skewb, coincidence?
But in all honesty I would love to get one of these.

Katsuhiko Okamoto was first builder who made Master Skewb. I know Aleh is only joking but to be clear- For my Master Skewb I used an original Taiwanese FTO which I truncated. This of course was after I had also made just a Truncated original FTO. Lanlan asked my permission to make their truncated FTO and I told them that I made no claims on that puzzle since it was such a simple transformation. They later contacted me about The Master Skewb and I said they should contact Katsuhiko about it. To avoid any confusion I would also like to state that I have never worked with Lanlan on any puzzle release and have no intention of doing so.

The only reason Tony used magnets on his build of the puzzle is because his version was a transformation from an FTO, and on an FTO, those pieces are not there!

The LanLan site and HKNowStore for certain, and probably WitEden and LighTake, as well as many other places.

I have placed my order! I am looking so much forward to owning one of these! It will be one of those puzzles I will sped quite some time on solving wise. New methods and speed (I think). I have one method already, so I know I can can solve it. But I would love to develop another approach. Is anyone up to help me find LL algorithms? (As not to derail this topic, please pm me if you have suggestions).
