Hi Twisty Puzzles fans,

Hex Cube is a twisty puzzle with ten squares and eight triangles. The puzzle has two hexagonal cross-sections and one four-fold symmetry. It is hard to describe all the possible twists of this puzzle. Mixup Cube 2x4x4 is based on the geometry of Hex Cube. The jury is still out on the question whether Hex Cube and Mixup Cube are puzzles that jumble.

Edit: One Twisty Puzzles fan suggested that Hex Cube has the geometry of a Square Orthobicupola. Incorrect. Hex Cube has two regular hexagonal cross-sections. Square Orthobicupola doesn't.

The mechanism of Hex Cube is similar to Mixup Cube. It has a 2x2x2 core. The ten squares lock under the eight corners. I made the puzzle small to make it affordable, but I feel it is a bit too small.

Come on Oskar, tell us the truth! The reason you call it Hex Cube
is because you love the Hex Bugs!!!

On a serious note, it might help to associate the algebraic group
of this puzzle with the one found in the Smart Alex puzzle.
(they are different groups, but they seem to have a common subgroup)

If i can comment with anything constructive, it has to be that I dont really like how the ares where stickers are meant to go are recessed.
Its kind of unique to your puzzles, so you should rather keep them that way. But IMO puzzles with flat faces are much nicer to look at, and will fit better in ones collection.
And from my experience with WSF, stickers are sticking very nicely to the surface, so no need for recesses!

Other than that. I am totally blown away by your puzzle! again...

also by its price! I love how we are able to actually buy most of your newer creations. Why is it that they are so cheap compared to older puzzles? have you learned to hollow out your designs?

could you please do that to your Crazy Comet and those others too? Maybe even make a mini (Not micro, but aim for affordable) versions PLEASE!!?

Well, I went from 1.5 to 0.7 mm wall thickness. That could explain the price difference.Thank you for the compliment. My dilemma is that whenever I have some time, I find myself spending it on new puzzles.

Great as always Oskar! If you turn this into a rectangular prism, it looks like you would end up with a 3x3x2 mixup cube. This is something I am going to have to try out!

I know! you create so much new stuff its unbelievable! But knowing it would improve your chances of more people were going to buy, woudn't that encourage you just a little?
I think many people would just love to own those expensive puzzles.

Oskar, please hollow out your old puzzles. I can attest, my Crazy Comet pieces (edges, corners anyway) are completely solid. Also, hopefully Meffert can produce more of your puzzles, like maybe the Radi or Fadi cube, or perhaps something that jumbles (canny uncube or uncanny cube, perhaps?) I could have bought more of them if they were cheaper

You finished the Hex Cube a while ago. Why'd you wait until now to post it here?

Is it? The Mixup Cube is a doctrinaire puzzle. Its what I've called a twisty/slidey puzzle because of the arguments presented in the link above its not a pure twisty puzzle. And it doesn't jumble.

The Hex Cube I think is in the same boat but not having one in hand I can't say for sure. To me it appears the Hex Cube is to the Mixup Cube what the Domino is to the 3x3x3. Along one axis of rotation a slice layer has been removed. And the 60 and 120 degree turns are limited to the slice layers or slidey pieces aren't they? The core of this puzzle I believe is a 2x2x2 (or Fused Cube) and the face layers I think are limited to 90 and 180 degree turns. If I'm correct its a doctrinaire puzzle too and doesn't jumble.

Actually along 2 axes of rotation I think the face layers are limited to 180 degree turns. I need to watch the video a few more times.

I agree... looks like you could easily make a Mixup Domino from this if you wanted to. I'm surprised that didn't come before the Mixup 2x4x4.

Mixup 2x4x4 has a nice regular 4x4 square grid when looking from the top. Mixup 2x3x3 doesn't. So I decided to go for the better-looking 2x4x4 version.

well it depends on how much the price will be reduced! But if I can afford it, then I would be ready to buy a Fairly Twisted ( a true Oskar puzzle! ) in November

In that case you could try and convince Alfred "stardust4ever" Williams to select that puzzle for a makeover.

I made Fairly Fudged, which is based on Fairly Twisted, but now also the pentagonal face can turn, thank to a bit of fudging. I made it as hollow as I could. Anywhere near your price point?
