I just made this puzzle today.

I suggested the idea to DLitwin, except the puzzle concieved was five stairs instead of the four. He said that it wouldn't be that easy to make, and that was true. It was too hard to create. Until I learn how to use Alibre design, I can't make it.

So I went with the four-staired version instead. It is a very good quality puzzle except for the top steps.

As with my Giant Crystal Cube (now shattered because of poor quality) , this twistypuzzle is also made of dollar store 3x3x3 cubies. I used two dollar store cubes to make this.

It is hard to try to build a puzzle with DS cubes. (DS stands for dollar store.) Especially when you have to take two parts off the core of one of the cubess and glue it into two edges in the other.

-This is a shapeshifting puzzle; meaning it can change it's shape. When it's solved, though, it looks like a flight of stairs.
-Notice there is a gaping hole in the puzzle so that the mechanism is functional.
-This puzzle is named after me; Derek Goodwin. Since noone has created this puzzle yet, this hences the name.
-The top steps on the puzzle rotate very smooth but are quite fragile. It's held together by Elmer's glue. I wanted to use superglue but I was out.
-I will not be selling this puzzle. This was very hard to make, and it's the first ever of it's kind.
-If anyone else has made this puzzle before, not that I'd know, or if anyone was planning to make one of these, my apologies. When I posted my Giant Crystal Cube, I found out that it was already made. So just to be sure, tell me if you did make this.

Now that I put clay in it, it doesn't rattle and it's very stabe. The quality has risen tremendously.

I do not have a camera. I had to resort to a scanner.

Take a floppy cube, remove 1 corner and add 2 trivial tips and I believe you have the same puzzle.
The idea of making a stair type puzle is far from new and you really can't demand of people not to make one for themselves.
Also please crop the images, there is no need for those big white borders.

Hey, I am only allowed to modify dollar store cubes, because my parents say my other cubes are too "precious" to be tampered with. Even though my V-cube 6 can be well faster as a 4x4 or 5x5 than my actual 4x4 and 5x5, they won't let me.

I think I understand this puzzle. It has nothing to do with a void cube. Just a 3x3x3 bandaged into a 3x3x1. Then one piece is removed and trivial tips are added. It might be possible to make the tips non trivial but that would make a new puzzle

This puzzle does have potential... If you allowed someone else to design a version without the gaping hole, and maybe if you used some high quality vinyl stickers, it could be quite a cool puzzle. To be honest, even though your design is unique, and that you do not want anyone else to make one isn't exactly fair, considering the fact that a 3x3x3 with additional trivial extentions isn't a unique idea all together, and it could be a well known puzzle if you allowed someone else to design the puzzle in CAD without the gaping holes. Just my two cents.

it's not a 3x3x3, just a 3x3x1 with a couple extensions and a corner missing...

Nevertheless it was made from a 3x3x3. And it does look very interesting also. Though a Floppy Cube may have got rid on the gaping hole.

I totally agree; it's a nice puzzle to begin with, but with a good re-design and maybe some extra features added, it would be awesome!
