The Gear Cube, Meffert's collaboration with Oskar van Deventer to mass produce Oskar's Caution Cube, is now available for everyone! http://www.mefferts.com/products/index.php?category_new=13&lang_new=enIt's $36, available in either black, white or black and white twins. I bought mine the minute I saw it. Attachment:

I was going to order one (I mean come on, it's OSKAR'S CAUTION CUBE!) but I'm really trying to save money and this is easier than a regular 3x3x3. I still have to order my heli cube, but this one isn't for me.

It must have been SOOO hard to keep this secret! What an awesome puzzle to choose for mass production! Not to mention, this is the first of (hopefully) many collaborations between Mefferts and Oskar.... starting dreaming about more...

I'm going to be getting this shortly, along with a black helicopter cube and skewb. I have know idea how you would solve it, if anything it would seem to be more complicated then a normal Rubik's Cube... then again that's quite an easy puzzle.

The helicopter I could wait for, but now, seeing this, I am soooooo tempted to cut into my casting money. The thing is, if I have to put off getting casting stuff and my Jade Pyraminx arrives, I'll have to pay my parents for that and then I'll have to wait longer. Why do you have to make this so hard Mr.Meffert?!?!?!?!? Alex

After I saw this puzzle was going to come out through the e-mail, I went and checked out a couple of videos from Oskar's youtube channel, judging which ones could be fit for mass-production. I don't believe too many of them are... I really hope the 'Outer Space' type puzzles, (Meteor Madness, Astroid Attack, etc.) will be. After the Helicopter Cube I got so intruiged with jumbling, no doctrinary twistypuzzle will suffice! And the Gear Cube is no doctrinary twistypuzzle either, for obvious reasons

Just out of curiosity, why doesn't Meffert's produce such puzzles as this with the regular old BOY color scheme? I think I'd much rather prefer a caution cube with a normal color scheme. Edit: Quote: Using a full gear mechanism that requires twelve 90° turns to complete one rotation but having said this it is still slightly easier then the Rubik’s cube, Designed by M. Oskar van Deventer, it will be Meffert’s Puzzle Of the Year for 2010. Did they mean "Puzzle of the Month?"

shouldn't this be called the caution cube? The gear cube is another Oskar puzzle that uses gears to turn the opposite side in the other direction.
i'll probably buy one anyway..

Thats not entirely true, With the caution cube (i.e. Mefferts gear cube) the edges will turn too, this is not happening with the Geary Cube. The edges can actually turn by 90 degrees: the edges will pop out a bit (don’t worry: the puzzle won’t come apart). I had the pleasure of playing with it at DCD, it’s a really confusing puzzle! Looking forward to receiving mine

I don't call that the edge piece rotating 90 degrees. I don't even call that the edge piece. That's the gear on/in the edge piece. I guess some terminology needs to be defined when talking about this puzzle.

We indeed need new terminology here (not the first time with an Oskar puzzle!). English is not my mother tongue: anybody with an idea?

Jade Club members were given first notice that this was coming, were giving first opportunity to reserve and then purchase one. It was never said that these were for Jade Club members only unless they sold out through the Jade Club reservations/sales before having a chance to hit the regular web site. Also, there has been no indication at all that there is anything special about the ones for Jade Club members.

I had received my Gear Cube a couple of days ago, and I must say, I am extremely impressed by its smooth movement. Some say it is easy, but the challenge is different than that of a normal 3x3x3 because of the edge-rotation. The group behind it is certainly much smaller, but that is not a bad thing. In some cases I enjoy just moving it and watching the pieces align perfectly back to place. It is definitely coming with me for my big overseas trip! Now I only need to place some sharp razors on the gear-extensions, lube it, and pass it to a speedsolver! Pantazis

I got my set of Gear Cube twins last night. Impressive, really cool puzzles. As a Jade club member I can vouch for that mine are no different than ones any other person will be getting. I just got to reserve first.

Got mine yesterday, too. I'm afraid to scramble it!

I thought that I'd ordered it, but I checked my paypal and realised that I'd reserved it but then not ordered it! It's ordered now, hopefully it'll arrive just after I go back to school after the holidays. Alex
