I have finally finished my third Pentultimate, using a redesigned mechanism I'm calling Version 2.5.

This is the version I promised in the Pentultimate Version 2 Thread.

I am VERY happy with this puzzle. The movement is much improved over the Version 2, which was already quite playable. I was rating Version 2 a 60/100 on movement. I would rate Version 2.5 at 90/100.

As some of you know, I have been working on The Pentultimate for almost 3 years, so I am very happy to finally have a prototype I am happy with. :D

This is an SLS and ABS print. SLS often sounds worse in videos than in feels in person, and that's the case here.

I have decided to offer this puzzle for sale in an ebay auction later today. I'll update this post with the auction link.

Enjoy the video!

Video Here

The auction has started! Happy bidding!

The movement on it is amazing! So much better than the original, knucklehead one.

That turns fantastically. If you don't mind me asking, is the mech different from the v2, or did you just change tolerance?

been waitng for this puzzle to come for a long time! is so great that it finally happened!

so does it still have any trouble of moving on some of the cuts? or is it equal smoothness?

is it acompletely new mechanism?

I have been thinking about another mechanism for this puzzle involving a rubiks 4x4x4/ holey megaminx style mech. what do you think? :)

Thanks for the compliment!

It's a new mechanism based on what I learned in V2. Some things are the same in there and some things have been fundamentally changed. It's not a matter of clearances. It was different enough that this puzzle was another gamble all over again.
And the auction has started! Happy bidding!

Just so perfect. can i ask a few questions? like, how many internal pieces are there in it? do you think it would be speedsolvable in MP form? < is this likely AT ALL, or just wishful thinking?

Nice rotational abilities! But in the video, it seems like every turn starts as if it needs to go over a hump(a slight sort of click) before it turns. Is this really what's happening, or does it just seem that way?

And just to be certain: this mechanism is a master pentultimate with the middle layer hidden, right?

It has to be well aligned before turning. I give it a little jiggle to start turns to help it align. There's no click built into the mechanism or anything. As you can see, once it's fully aligned, turning is nice.

And yes! It's a master pentultimate in disguise.

Do you think a click would help?

Nope! It's happily clickless by design. :)

This is one of the puzzle I hope to be able to have by the end of 2011.

I'm not looking for a rush on this one, but it's amazing.

-AND- I'm still racking my brain trying to come up with a way to make a half minx work.

I believe he means the deep-cut vertex turning dodeca. I have a design somewhere but it was real rough.

Anyway, it would never compare to this which looks near perfect. Congratulations on this smooooooth puzzle

MaxXimum13 is right, a deep cut, vertex turning dodecahedron.

Jason, I had the time to look at the videos, and I must say, this puzzle has gone
a long long long (did I say long?) way!

Well done, another "former impossible" puzzle has not just become a reality,
but it also turns as smooth as many mass production puzzles do!

:)
