It does look like this wiffle ball but not exactly like that as the holes are concerned.
As far as I remember first of all, the holes were smaller in comparision to the ball.
Then there were first off all 12 holes, arranged like the faces of a dodecahedron (but how could I tell if they really are "under the faces")
than around each of these 12 holes there were another 5 holes of the same size, arranged like the edges or corners of a dodecahedron that are arrayed around every face (but again, how could I tell if they are really there, I am just describing to make it easy to visualize).
Then, as I recall around each of these 20 or 30 (depending if they take place of edges or corners) additional holes there were 9 other holes of the same size in a close radius. Not arranged circular but kind of triangular around the hole in the center.
This is about what I remember but I can't tell exacty. The only thing I actually really know for sure, is that there were many holes and some of them hat a lot of holes in a close distance around them.
Oh and I am almost 100% sure that all the holes had a pattern.
So don't try to design this puzzle at the base of my description now.
Unless of course you are Drew himself and just correct all the mistakes. But why would you?
