It isn't groundbreaking (and somewhat referenced from another thread although this is not the slice version), but I would like to present the Duominx:






This puzzle was designed by Oskar van Deventer, masters printed by George Miller and I prepared them and cast the puzzle.

Around the time of IPP29 Oskar was interested in the cutouts of my Kilominx (now available as Meffert's Flowerminx). He set out to design a Kilominx with no gaps in it (neither mine nor those of Thomas' Impossible Dodecahedron). This puzzle was the first design to meet this goal, and Oskar has posted about his revised design.

I thought a Kilominx should be smaller than a megaminx. Both Thomas and I built on top of that mechanism so naturally it wound up larger which never felt right to me. So for this one I tried to find the right size, and settled on a height of 57mm (sound familiar?). I think it came out just right, and thought a name change to distinguish it from other Kilominxes was appropriate.

Lol almost forgot to mention the puzzle. It looks excellent! I really like the watertight design over either the gappy version and the Flowerminx. They are all beautiful though.

Yes, they are different sizes and weights so my first Flowerminx throw was off. Aleh (who has held the camera for both of my puzzle juggling videos) was kind enough to put a pillow on the floor but we didn't need it.
How's that for Pillowing a puzzle...

Just when one gets mass-produced, you come up with a better design, and I have to say, I enjoy this one better than the other design, and I would very much like to own one if the opportunity ever arises when I have money in my pockets.

P.S. I hope a project you and I have been discussing via PMs is as watertight as this design.

My involvement was quite minor, it's Oskar's design from a few months back when the Flowerminx was already in the works. My modifications (seen on the building thread) weren't large, my contribution was mainly the scale change and actually building it.
Hmmm... Not mine, but perhaps yours. You'll note, despite my attempts to hide it, my Gigaminx has some white replacement parts. Almost like I've been modifying it...

Please get this over to Mefferts because I'd love to buy the orginal/normal Duominx in a heart beat. No offence to the Flowerminx and its creator but it to gappy for me and I don't care for the name. Sorry about that.

That's exactly what I was thinking when I first saw this, but the forum crashed before I could post it.

Both my Kilominx (now Flowerminx) and Thomas' Impossible Dodecahedron had gaps and cut outs because we were approaching the problem from the perspective of plates on top of a Megaminx. Oskar's approach started from CAD which gave him more freedom to consider the problem. There was nothing about the CAD version we couldn't have done by hand, but the visualization is a bit harder and the precision is always a challenge. Look to guys like Aleh to do CAD style work by hand, not me

By the time Oskar approached me with his design I was already underway with Meffert getting my design produced. I suppose, had Oskar come up with his design before this and shown it, there would be some possibility of Meffert having shown interest in that version. But a collaboration between Meffert and Oskar wouldn't have involved me as it is not my design.

I don't expect Meffert will look at producing another Kilominx now that he has produced the Flowerminx (the market will only bear so much) and I don't think the smaller size would be of interest (I suggested this size for the Flowerminx) because keeping it the existing size means better sharing of his previous work (Pyraminx Crystal).

At the DCD, mr Meffert kept saying how much he loved the cut-outs on the Flowerminx, and it was suitable to be put on the Pyraminx Crystal core, for which he probably had the moulds to start with, so I think he would still have preferred your kilomin over this one.

I like how the puzzle is 'perfect', without gaps, and smaller than the megaminx.
