Solve the colors or solve the shape.

What I did was I gave the Mirror Blocks a really good scramble and then I applied the colored stickers as if it was solved. I took care to make sure that in either solved state, two surfaces from the other solved state aren’t next to each other. So when you have solved the colors, all of the surfaces are at different depths. Also when you solve the shape the surfaces next to each other are different colors.

Is there any significance to the scramble other than no connected colors?

That's pretty much it, just no connected colors or shapes/depths.

Nice! I had an idea for something similar with a normal 3x3. Take three 3x3s and swap them so each cube has 3 layers all a different color. Then scramble it up, and sticker it normally. You can solve it like a 3x3 or just by layers.

Very nice. The idea of a cube with multiple solutions is a nice one - similar to a Rubik's Magic, where the goal is to get from one to the other. But here, it's not as easy to just flip to the other solution.

Now... how long until someone makes a three-solution cube?

And put numbers on each face! (then it'd be a supercube as well, since the centers would have to be right side up!)

I have had this Idea ever since I saw the bump cube, and was planning to make it sometime, but I don't have stickercutting skills...

You can add a 3rd solution by writing the wrods of the colos on white stickers in a way that you can solve the colors of the pen you wrote them with or the actual words. I did that once and it was really confusing to see the word "red" nine times on one side of the cube written in different colors. In my design on the centers word and color of the word always matched up, on two other squares it happened accedantally bu that was cool so I didn't change it. Adding this to your cube would be even crazier. It doesn't look as beautiful as your cube though.

Not really, you'd just have to scramble it (shapewise) and put the stickers on so it is in a solved position by color.

This is turning out to be all most an idiots cube because its impossible to scramble and theres always in a solved stated. I LOVE IT!!!

An other solution would be to put all 6 colors on each 54 stickers. Well no. That would be to easy to solve but far too difficult to scramble.

What, 10 solved states out of the billions upon billions of combinations and suddenly it's easy?
I suspect not...

Perhaps a computerized cube with little display screens on all the faces would be a better option... once it's solved, it calculates another scrambled position and all the sides change to match it! Plus it could have different modes like sudoku cube, shepherd's cube, ultimate cube, etc., as well as cubes with pictures - even moving pictures - on every side.

(If someone makes one of these in the next 50 years, I totally called it! )

how many sticker sets did you need of each color to make that awesome cube modifcation?

It doesn't look as scrambled as yours, but I'm happy with it.
The shape solving is more difficult for me than the color solving

I would give that to one of my friends that can barely solve the cube and tell them to get the shape right & get all the colors right.

Can you give us the scramble that you did to make this? I am interested in making one similar to this and I don't think that I could make all the sizes different.
(One way to find the scramble is solve by shape, then plug colors into cube explorer.)

Ever since I originally posted this I have had a number of requests for a diagram of the layout. When I first sat down to make one I realized that I had made a small mistake with this puzzle and when it was in cube form there were two green stickers next to each other.

This was something I wanted to fix.

But I got distracted with other things. So finally, after sitting on this for a very long time I've finally made some corrections and adjustments to my original layout. I guess I could refer to this as version 2 even though version 1 wasn't exactly like I wanted it to be.

So now I can present a diagram of my Two Solution Mirror Blocks Version 2 (along with a couple of updated pictures).

YAY STICKER LAYOUT!

I might do this with all of the unused vinyl that I bought for failed mods!

I did solve this problem on mine with some T-perms and orientation algs.
