I was so excited to finally finish sanding, lubing, and assembling, that I thought I'd go ahead and share my truncated gigaminx. This was just begging to be done, so I decided I'd give it a go.

Unfortunately, because the pieces are no longer hollow, the turning of the puzzle is greatly affected. I filled the pieces with white milliput, but the color difference was still off, so i decided to try a little paint. This was a big mistake, and I may try this again at some point, perhaps with casted pieces...? At any rate, I'm going to enjoy having this one on the shelf, even if it is for aesthetic appeal only! I'll update with more pics as soon as I get the stickers cut and applied.

So would you call this a giga-icosidodecahedron, a icosi-minx, or what??

(this was the "From 12 to 32" puzzle I hinted about in the secrets thread...)

Enjoy!
Updated below with pics and stickers.... (scroll down a bit)

It looks wonderful!

Of course it'd work better if it were made from a hand-cast puzzle... but I can't blame you for not modding one of those. :P

Nice. Next job is to build it up to an Icosahedron

If you truncate deeper, it'll be more easier to det it to a icosahedron.

Very nice!
¿Are there any other mod of a gigaminx?
I guess the next step would be making one into an icosahedron.

Thanks everyone! The Icosahedron would be a huge puzzle indeed - maybe someday. First I've got to get this thing working right. I'm going to have to do some more sanding first - It keeps locking up - the corners keep catching on the other pieces...

Finally I'm going to call this one complete. I did another round of sanding - made the corners a bit smaller on the edges, and it made a world of difference. It actually turns fairly good. Not perfect of course, but overall I'm very happy with it. I hand cut the corner triangular stickers from spare sets of cubesmith 4x4 cuboctohedron stickers I had laying around. I know the stickers are not perfect, but I'm too tired at this point to redo anything. Besides I've got another project in the works I need to finish...

Edit - I forgot to mention that I stickered the corner pieces with matching colors on opposite sides. I don't think this would add to the solving difficulty, but I'm not sure to be honest... There are two possible pieces that can go in each corner now, so I'm guessing that this means they are interchangeable without creating any kind of parity. I don't think this puzzle can have a parity, right?

Enjoy!

Looks great!

I like the pattern of cuts on the faces. Nice colour scheme too :)

I've also had trouble with colour-matching white Milliput. Mine's more ivory coloured than white.
