I was making a 3x3x2 and thought it would make a quirky looking puzzle if the equatorial layer was made visible and the bandaging piece omitted.

Movement's a bit squishy and the geometry can distort a little. I used the original 3x3x4 stickers and reduced them in size, so at some point I'll need to replace them with better quality ones. Apart from than that, I'm happy with it.

I used the Smaz 3x3x2 tutorial to speed things up a bit for the first part of the build.

EDIT: Video added 10/11/12

A faster way to make it would be from a 3x3x3 and a heavy weight...

Is this the first tetragonal prism?

Very fancy! Really professional.

Hi Justing,

Looks great! considering the last picture, why not call it a squash-cube?

WOW, what a puzzle, good job. Nice to see more and more new custom puzzles coming from the UK. I've got a similar puzzle in the works at the moment mines only a very simple transformation.

But yes great build :)

Wow! very interesting, does it function as a 3x3x3 or as a 3x3x4?

What do you mean be tetragonal prism? Wouldn't cuboids like the 5x5x4, 5x5x3, 3x3x1, and 3x3x2 fit the geometry of a tetragonal prism?

Yes I suppose they would elijah. But this is a "conventional" tetragonal prism that fits in the series of trigonal prism, pentagonal prism, and hexagonal prism.

Okay, I suppose I get what your saying... I like the way it looks!
All other prism are restricted to 180 degree turns though, so in that series, this puzzle still doesn't quite fit.

It's an extra functional tetragonal prism :D

Like the extra functioning domino.

Whatever, it's close enough. :D

It functions as a half-turns 3x3x3 + the weird centre move from the "3x3x2 from a 3x3x4".

I think it might be possible to eliminate those weird centre moves by making the layers slightly wider - not too sure at the moment.

Very nice! I was planning to make a flattened 2x2x3 but I guess I would do that later cause its too complicated.. Lol at the last picture, it explains it all!

"Tetra" means 4. So a tetragonal prism is a prism with four sides. It's just a very unorthodox way to refer to a "cube", "square prism", or "rectangular prism".

By the way, I'd love to see a demonstration of that "displaced center" move. All of the videos I've seen on youtube of the 3x3x4, the posters only want show off thier speedcubing ability, so while they all demonstrate the wonky "more than fully functional" quarter turns on the c4u 3x3x4 and 3x3x2 mods, I've never been able to clearly see how it works in detail, or if this translates to a parity situation that's not normally possible.

stardust, thanks for those words. I kept thinking: what are they talking about?? Tetragonal prism?? and its cubic, what have they been eating?

Now I feel dumb for thinking that.. :)

nice puzzle! I have often been thinking about how to make a half turn 3x3x3.

But its still not half turn is it?

I'll add a video, hopefully this weekend.

Not a 'Madness' version. On the third photo, there's a protruding centre on the hidden face, so I can see how you thought it might be a 'Madness' version. I'll re-take that photo later as it is a bit misleading - I didn't notice at the time I took it.

Unfortunately it's blighted by the weird centre switching move of its 3x3x2 cousin.
