How is this made? the only thing I could think of is a bump 3x3x4 or 3x3x5 bandaged into this.

Wow, that's awesome! I still can't figure out how it's made! I was thinking maybe a bandaged 3x3x5 but I found a counterexample for that.
EDIT: I think I got it now. Great job!
