Unfortunately, the centers turn independently and do not stay anchored in place when there respective face rotates. The next time I buy masters for another puzzle I am going to get the additional pieces to allow (restrict actually) the circles independent movement.

This is my first time casting. While the puzzle is rather crappy right now, I am going to recast several pieces and clean it up for a more pleasant looking product. The turning is not that great, but I just assembled it and I can feel it improving as I play with it.

Edge length is 40mm; although I knew how big it would be, I wasn’t expecting it to dwarf my other puzzles.

Looks great! Can't you glue the centers to the core to stop the circles rotating independantly? Or does that not work?

The centers are made in 2 layers. if I had made the inner layer a slide on the outer layer that would work, but I just screwed it onto an internal cap. All I would need to change is the outer center and drill out the inner ones. I would be relatively easy, and I would only need to cast 12 more pieces, but it is most likely not something that will occur soon.

I've always though that Drew would be the first one to make this! I really like 'cirlce' puzzles, becuase they seem so impossible to solve. Also, can't you have built the centers so that they clip on to a special core?

Making the centers anchored is not a problem; I have the pieces designed already. However, as school starts I will not have excess time and the project will be postponed.

Yep, at least until I realized that the cube equivalent of this puzzle would take about half as many pieces.

I gave up on the deep cut version because the mech turning into a dodecahedron version of the 24 cube, but I finished the shallow cut version. The mech is not large enough for me to be comfortable with someone making it though. I might redesign in with the generously provided pillowed files.

so the helicopter minx would behave similarly to a helicopter cube but simply with more edges or would it be much different in its behavior?
