But like he mentioned, stickering that shape is incredibly difficult to do really well.

Why not make each piece curved in only one direction, from North to South, but not along the equator, then the stickers will fit the surface much better.

That's a good idea but there's something special about a perfect sphere. They are very satisfying to make.

Ah yes, understood. Then how about cutting it into an infinite number of segments, then you can get a perfect sphere without wrinkled labels.
