Wow! although the fairly twisted isn't new, this version is smaller. Has anybody here actually bought one of his puzzles? They seem awfully expensive. (But awesome)

Hmmm... Meteor, Astroid... I think Oskar is trying to tell us something!
(those puzzles come from outer space!!!)

And I admit, I might not be a fan of non-jumbeable puzzles that change shape,
but jumbeable puzzles, are a totally different league! I just love them!

:)

We've seen the Meteor Madness puzzle before here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lO13E7Y5BIQ
This is a prototype.

And I notice the new/smaller Fairly Twisted puzzle is a bandaged form of the older/larger one seen here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nH4-BzjlDmY
Notice the larger one allows rotations on the pentagonal face in its solved state where as the smaller one does not.

Carl

P.S. Looking a bit more closely the bandaging on the new Fairly Twisted puzzle as compared to the old is a bit more complicated that I mention above. I believe each rotatable face center aside from the pentagonal one has two pieces bandaged to it. The small triangular face pieces that are present on the old puzzle are now bandaged to their face centers. To be honest I'm not sure its possible to seperate this pieces from their face center through scrambling on the old puzzle. And in addition to the 5 edge pieces of the pentagonal face that are bandaged there are 2 edge pieces that neighbor the odd green face (on the old puzzle) or odd red face (on the new puzzle) that are bandaged to their neighboring rotatable face centers. I think all of these edge pieces could be seperated from their face centers on the old puzzle.

Carl, the older Fairly Twisted just looks like it can rotate in some extra ways - it has some places where it looks like there's a cut between two pieces but actually it's just one solid piece. There are subtle geometric reasons why those pieces can't be interchangeable with the regular edges.

Thanks for the info Bram. So you can't rotate the pentagonal face on the old puzzle in the solved position? It looks like those 5 edges should be easily interchangeable with each other at least. I could see how maybe they wouldn't mix with the other edges (your regular edges). And I have no idea if those other 2 edges could mix with each other, the 5 edges on the pentagonal face, or your regular edges (provided of course if they were actually unbandaged).

Carl

The angles of the corner pieces are subtly off from the direction they'd have to go in to allow rotating of the pentagon, at least not without some fudging.

Not exactly an easy thing to visualize...
