Although I know about the Okki Gem, I don't know if this one's been done before.

It's made from an Eastsheen keychain with styrene plated extensions glued on. On the downside, it has a flimsy cheapish feel to it. On the plus side, it turns quite well and the shape changing nature makes it a bit more challenging to solve than a regular 2x2x2.

Technically, couldn't you call it "solved" no matter where each color is in relation to each other?

Both 'halves' need top be in their proper order, though. Only the top vs bottom are semi-irrelevant, but then those are a trivial transformation away from each other.

Yes. With reference to the first pic, it rotates around the equator, giving it 4 solved states that are one quarter turn apart. Only using half turns across the equator will keep the shape whilst scrambling the colours (as in the 2nd pic).
