EDIT: VIDEOGot it! The movement is now on par with a new Eastsheen 444 cube (seriously!), and the overall feel of the puzzle has promoted it to the position of my new favorite. For those that may be wondering, Rua is equivalent to a fully functional (i.e., "jumblable") version of gelatinbrain's 3.3.3 puzzle, with the added feature that part orientation counts too. Yikes! Also, I'll post a video when the the sun comes back out. Now, if only I could figure out how to solve the thing.... Cheers!

Now this looks like the puzzle in your avatar, except the faces look like a 2x2 truncated cube instead of a 3x3 one, so it must be a lower order of your other puzzle.

Rua?
Er I can't figure this out from the picture!
Another shape-shifting rhombic dodecahedron? But how does it turn? I can't even see where the rotations are! More pictures! More pictures!
Where are all these coming from? Great imagination!

There are some days when I think that I'll never get anything done because people keep beating me to everything. This was literally next on my list of things to do. (The thing that I'm currently working on has already been done too but I figured I'd finish it just to finish something.)
It looks great, pretty much exactly how I imagined it.

Alokin wrote: Will we be allowed to see some mech's pictures? Actually, I think I may go back on my original promise and not be showing these for a while... This is primarily because both of the puzzles turned out to be *a lot* more interesting than I thought they would be--"rua" especially--and at this point I would like to enter both of these puzzles in next years IPP. Thus, for now, I think I'll be basically sitting on these puzzles until then, so as to protect my entry. In other words, these two puzzles are the first I have created that I would request that nobody duplicate *yet*, so that this is only a temporary exception to my normal policy In the meantime though, both designs should make a cameo at DCD 2008 for those that may be interested Cheers!

That is beautiful. I still find it so hard to visualise the turns from these pictures.
I will be very interested in seeing the mech when you finally show it!

Good luck with your IPP entries - worthy contenders I'm sure. These must be the first puzzles made out of Kendal Mint Cake.

I'm speechless! Fantastic demo video! How does it turn on a different axis after a partial turn on the other axis!? O_O I can't figure this out!

Aesthetic perfection. With 69 hidden pieces, the inside must look pretty amazing too.

very nice! these puzzles are really confusing for me as far as which cube they represent... ---ok once again I realized I made a redundant comment, just like in the toru thread. but I don't really feel like editting it right now, especially since it's not a totally useless comment. Rua looks like 3.3.3 with several pieces (outer and middle edges) hidden. that would be 60 "hidden pieces" (like the eastsheen A4 hidden pieces) + 9 more "mechanism parts" making the 69 hidden pieces you mentioned. the 9 mechanism parts would then most likely be the 12 axis center spindle plus some other piece at each corner to hold everything together. but that's just what the numbers "look like", I haven't thought any about how this would actually work.

That depends on whether you're thinking of building up or shaving down - since you've cadded and built it, it makes sense that you're thinking exclusively in terms of build-up. I can go either way, but was thinking in terms of shave-down in that earlier post.
