We are currently talking to our worldwide business partners about the pre-wholesales orders. If anyone in the puzzles business and interested to be our oversea partners, feel free to contact me at calvinfan@hknowstore.com .
We would like most of our partners made their pre-wholesales orders and have the cubes in stock in advance. Then, we shall set a lucky date to officially release it to the market.

I'm a nut for cuboids and their variants / cousins, so I'm super excited for all these, especially the L-cube!

I hope that there are more coming than just these three. It would be nice to see a full cross cube.

Is the cross cube related to the Kickstarter project that just recently finished!

I did not know about this from Calvin and put money into the KS version - any suggestions what should be done now?

We are just one step away from having the Cross Cube mass-produced.
(Not sure how Tony would feel, though...)

The Cross Cube is on Tony's "OK-list". I don't think it's a problem.

Pre-orders for each member of this series are now posted on HKNowStore.

I hesitated to get the L-Cube at first, as it seems to be a sub-puzzle of the X-Cube, but in the end I decided to go for all three. I do wonder how much similarity there will be in the solutions. I'm thinking that once the 3x3x5 is restored to cuboid-form, it will be a non-shapeshifting 3x3x5 cuboid solve. The other two seem like they will require a different approach.

I'm looking forward to the Summer of Cuboids.

I think there should be a DIY set that allows you to assemble all puzzles between a 3x3x3 and a full Cross Cube (within this theme). I assume it would require 54 extensions, 4 types of 3x3x3 corners, 3 types of 3x3x3 edges and 2 types of centres. I can't be sure it would work since I don't know the mechanism used.

Please, don't tell my wife, I did the same. I have got the C4U cubic 3x3x5 and a custom proportional 3x3x5 (made by a fellow TP member). (When you have solved the cubic one, there are no real surprises solving the proportional. Just the dazzling factor of shape shifting comes as an add-on. A fun way to solve the 3x3x5 is reduction to a 3x3x3.)

I have such an ordinary taste, that most of my custom puzzles get mass-produced a little bit after I bought the custom version.
Following this rule, you can expect a Master FTO, Multi Dodecahedron, a Pentultimate and a Master Pentultimate ... soon.
(Do not assume that I have any hints, I'm just guessing because of "Konrad's rule").

So far, I got each mass-produced puzzle as well to compare both versions.
In most cases the mass-produced versions are doing pretty well.
Still, I'm an aficionado (Roberto used this word in the PAW thread and I like it better than "fan") of handmade and 3-printed puzzles.

I was bad and am likely one of the very few to order a blue X.

It can keep the blue 4x4x6 of TomZ company.

Does this mean we're close to a FF 5x5x3? The X-Cube is soooo close. Such a tease.

Pretty sure it's not possible through conventional means so it's actually much further away than it looks.

Ah yes, I didn't check the turning circles. It must be pretty close to the limit.

I've also made an unboxing/review video of all three puzzles (3x3x5, L-cube and X-cube). For those interested in colour, the puzzles I got are black. I did my absolute best to pronounce Aleh's and Grigr's names correctly!

I received my Calvin's Puzzle cuboid set and WOW they're great puzzles! They turn very well. I accidentally scrambled my X-Cube and... yeah, I'm still working on it. I was surprised by the turning of the L-Cube. It makes sense, but I sure wasn't expecting that.

I agree Pete! I think the L-cube is definitely the harder one (compared to the X-cube). It's the lack of symmetry. I solved the X-cube without too much hassle but the L-cube is resisting efforts currently...

all right! L-Cube is a hard puzzle game! it makes everything a challenge ;)
but you need to pay attention to the L-Cube Extreme and 3 * 3 * 5 cuboid extreme
it is much more interesting and more difficult to solve!

Unfortunately Calvin will not release them, in his parts-set lack of one part...
I can sell additional block-parts in my ShapeWays store

also I can sell additional circle-parts for Crazy 2-Face cube

Got both the black and the blue in. Blue was a bit loose, black is too tight but I have to wait for the owner to give his permission to let me tension it haha. That is easily done by the way.

One downside is that the edgepieces come apart too easily; had one half fly into my lap earlier. Easily sorted as well though with a drop of superglue.

Solving? I haven't dared scramble it yet, but it looks awesome!

I finally received my set of all 3 puzzles yesterday. I have to say that I’m a bit disappointed with them. My one word review of them is:

“Cheap”

My more detailed review of them is as follows:

The first one I opened and played with was the X-Cube. Just turning it to see how well it moved caused some burs on the inside surface of one of the extensions to snag and tear through a few stickers. I wasn’t too concerned for the stickers as I plan on replacing them with CubeSmith stickers anyway. But I will have to take apart the puzzle to remove all of these rough inner edges and burs. The extension pieces are made of multiple pieces of plastic some in a similar manner as some of the DaYan cubes. The edges are two pieces while the corners are three. The problem here is that the pieces for these extension cubies don’t really fit together as tightly as you would want. If you squeeze them a bit they slide against each other and start to fall apart. I intend to glue mine together. I will also have to sand down the flashing present where the pieces meet to avoid the sticker catching that has already happened. There are also present some small bumps from the injection mold process which need to be sanded down (note that they actually were on my 3x3x5 cuboid, just not on my X-Cube).

My L-Cube is much better as far as catching goes. This may be due to it being much looser. I will have to adjust the screws/springs on all three puzzles. One thing to note here is that my L-Cube is has way too much wet oil lube present. It has so much that the inner surface of the plastic bag that the puzzle came shipped in is wet. This puzzle is really dripping in the stuff. Yuck! I’m not a fan of wet oil based lubes to start with because I don’t like having to wash my hands after playing with a puzzle. Also, I have a two year old who likes to scramble puzzle for me but there is no way I would let him handle a puzzle like this. My 3x3x5 cuboid and X-Cube both have a small amount of it lube in them too (nowhere near as much as my L-Cube) and I will have to completely clean out all three puzzle. Puzzles like this shouldn’t need lube (if they do then it is a bad design) and with shape shifting puzzles like this it is inevitable that some of the lube will end up on the outer surfaces.

I said “cheap” above because the puzzles really feel cheap. The plastic is somewhat thin and not of the highest quality. This along with the sloppy/squishy feel of the extension pieces gives the impression of a low quality puzzle. Not what I expected considering the prices and considering how nice the 4x4x6 cuboids turned out.

But hope is not lost as these will just need a bit of work to make them really nice. Cleaning out the oil, changing the stickers, adjusting the screws/springs, gluing together the cubies, and sanding off the rough inner edges should do the trick. I will update my impressions of these after I do all of this.

I just read through quickly, one BIG tip that will help the catching is tensioning the x-cube. My cube was just fine, a little loose, Martywolfman's was tight and annoying to turn, but once I finally got the tensions right it all of a sudden lost the catchy feel and started turning freely.

So maybe you don't have to take it all apart and you might be able to sort it out by just tensioning. Start out with the white and yellow (the big faces) and then start working your way around on the other ones.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

The problem here is that the pieces for these extension cubies don’t really fit together as tightly as you would want.

Agreed.

I find that's almost always the case, with every puzzle I get. I don't think that's unusual here.

Definitely not good! Human error, no doubt, but it shouldn't have happened.

Mine all seemed to have a small amount of lube but I can't foresee needing to clean them all out. While it's obvious there's lube in them, none of it is seeping out. Is it seeping out on all of yours?

To be honest, these puzzles feel top quality compared with the witeden puzzles. I think the quality is fine.

I can only encourage you to persevere, because the X-cube is a good fun cube, and the L-cube is most definitely worth its money in solving value.

Just turning it to see how well it moved caused some burs on the inside surface of one of the extensions to snag and tear through a few stickers. I wasn’t too concerned for the stickers as I plan on replacing them with CubeSmith stickers anyway. But I will have to take apart the puzzle to remove all of these rough inner edges and burs. ...
I got my 3 cuboids yesterday. (I didn't tell my wife that there were three in the parcel  ) I scrambled and solved the X-Cube a few times today and some stickers look really damaged. I hope that it is not too much work to disassemble it and sand the pieces that are causing the damage. Has somebody done it already?

Otherwise I'm quite content with the X-Cube.
I checked the other two only briefly. I have got a hand modded 3x3x5 and Calvin's/Evgeniy's turns equally well.

EDIT Tuesday 23rd: I solved it now many times more and the damage on the stickers has not much increased. I'll just go on and replace some stickers later. I'm not so keen on disassembling it, so far

I thought I posted this yesterday but I can't find it on this thread now. :?

There's a video solution for the X-cube for anyone interested. :)

You won't regret it. The L-cube is great!

I totally agree with you , just received my 3x3x5 today , and it feels very cheap , stickers are already peeling , plastic feels dirty and catches a lottt , I'm pretty disappointed :(

I am surprised by these reactions. I mean every puzzle these days feels cheap including the Dayan Zhanchi and other speedcubes. These however are pretty good compared to the norm and movement is very smooth. It's a shame though that every puzzle can't be made like the original Rubik's Cube with nice thick walls, a minimum number of physical parts and a super high quality feel.

The sticker peeling issue is due to the face that the faces rub on the stickers with every turn of the outside squares. The problem could be easily solved with recessed stickers, like many of Oskar's older puzzles and the Cross-Minx. I wonder why they haven't done this already.

I must confess I feel like we're talking about different puzzles here. :? I've been playing LOTS with my L-cube (and the X-cube before that) and there's been none of what's been described such as sticker peeling, faces rubbing, dirty messy pieces etc etc. I didn't play with the 3x3x5 heaps, but I did solve it a few times and make tutorial videos. Maybe the first "batch" got a little more care in the preparation, that's all I can think. It's disappointing that others aren't having such a good experience, because the puzzles themselves are really good.

I will get back to my earlier point which is tension.

Some cubes come in a bit too loose, where others come in a little too tight. The too tight one that I got in had a lot of catching and trouble turning, It sometimes would not turn on a layer at all, that is how bad it was to start out with. But I also knew that tensioning would sort it.

And indeed. It took a while but at some point in time I got things right and the thing started to turn freely and without catching. As neither of the two have been scrambled or solved yet as we're doing that together and then see who gets it first (him most likely ) I cannot state anything on the sticker wear due to the turning just yet.

However what I will comment on is sticker alignment. My puzzle was stickered quite badly. Now on a 3x3 I wouldn't mind it too much as I am going to put my own stickers on there anyway, but on this cuboid I found it a slight disappointment. I contemplated contacting Calvin about it, still am actually, but that aside. Here are two pictures.

The white center sticker and some others are almost running off the cubie:

It's the same on the yellow side, just less severe:

These are not speedcubes, I realize that. These are special cubes that IMHO for their pricing could deserve a better job than this.

Needless to say I am still happy with these cuboids, despite their constant edge-half spittings and this sticker issue, they are quite special and I am very much looking forward to a cross cube.

The screw/spring tension isn’t the main causes of catching with mine.

The problems I am having come from the way the 2 or 3 pieces of the extended edge and corner cubies fit together. The slot design that is used allows for quite a bit of play in the individual pieces and it is easy for one to slide out of position leaving a gap (or letting it fall completely off the puzzle). With the corner pieces, this gap can happen on the surface that rubs against some of the stickers. This gap also causes a misalignment on the surface and any flashing at these edges catch the stickers. Also, many of my extended corner pieces have bumps caused from where the plastic is injected into the molds on these surfaces which also catch the stickers.

As I said above, I am in the process of gluing together all of my extended pieces to prevent this slipping/misalignment issue. I am also going to lightly sand off any flashing as well as the mold bumps.

It is the ease in which the 2 or 3 pieces that are used to make the cubies slide apart (and squish together) which makes this puzzle feel “cheap” to me. Also with mine, some of the pieces don’t even fit completely together correctly leaving noticeable gaps viewable from the outside of the puzzle (like what is sometimes seen with V-Cube edge pieces).

Thanks for all your support.
Be noted that we are using the same ABS plastic material as dayan zhanchi speed cubing cube.
For the poor stickering works, feel free to contact me at calvinfan@hknowstore.com. I shall send you the replacement stickers.
Actually, it is hard to control the same tightness of all puzzles with different assembly workers in the factory.
I shall push them to do better. Thanks for your understanding.
