At least I have no problem to classify this. It is just (?) a puzzle with a multi-origin-core.
We might need to distinguish between "glued-together" multi-origin-core puzzles like
Siamese Cube and "fully functional" multi-origin-core puzzles like
Double Dino one.
What is still lacking, are a good set of design patterns for fully-functional multi-origin-core puzzles. Whereas everybody is now using the
"shells" design pattern for single-core puzzles, we are still struggling with
fully-functional multi-origin-core ones. For example
-All fully-functional siamese cubes, including David Pitcher's recent one, have the property that pieces can be taken out mid turn.
-Double Dino has a lot of air inside. The Dino centers are concave to enable the large 1x3x3 turns. The Dino edges have small feet to fit both inside the rails of the 1x3x3 and under the Dino centers. Whereas a basic design rule for twisty puzzles is to fill all voids for stability, I do not see how I could achieve that for Double Dino.
