From what I understand, there has only been one batch of Mosaic Cubes produced, and it ran out fairly quickly, but there is another production run coming soon. However, I also know that there have been a few issues with the mosaic cube in the past and that the puzzle has gone through quite a bit of debugging. The Meffert's website says the puzzle is finally "the best we could make it" -- does that only apply to the upcoming batch, or the first as well?

The reason I'm asking is that hknowstore is still selling mosaic cubes from the first batch. I'd buy one right away, but if an improved version is about to come come out, I'd rather just pre-order it from Meffert's.

Also, does anyone have an idea when this new batch will be out?

Thanks

If it is really true that they will make a "new batch", I assume that Oskar's ball mechanism mass-produced could make the difference.
The ball is available at Shapeways for $20.67 since many months.
As far as I remember, only Burgo and I have made reviews about it, very positive reviews. :)
I cannot imagine, that anything else can be expected:

I have three Mosaic Cubes and none is really bad, but the one with the ball is clearly the best.

I had no idea it was being re-run... but it's already available, isn't it?

My Mosaic Cube is from PuzzleMaster. I'm pretty sure it's from the improved second run, and it doesn't have any of the issues the first run seemed to have - after a bit of breaking in it's on par with the Rubik's 4x4x4 for turning quality.

I'll take your word for it. What confused me is that http://www.mefferts.com/products/details.php?lang=en&category=13&id=443 says:

No other page mentions pre-ordering. Also, that phrase seems to imply that it won't always be available at $42 from Meffert's??

It would be awesome if that ever happened! I've read the the reviews by you and Burgo, and have plans to buy a core depending on how much I can tolerate the old core. It's pretty clear that the one for sale on Meffert's is going to have the old core though.

Thanks for the replies, guys!

I think that page you are looking at is old and has not been updated for a year or so.

I have one of the first production run, got it via jade club. It's terrible, pretty much unplayable.
If there's a new production run with the ball core that's really better, I would replace my current one because I still think it's a very nice looking puzzle

As there is no 'new' production run-tooling costs would be prohibitive if nothing else-I have amended the title of this thread. It was confusing before.
