I know there are a lot of clones in the world (and in my collection as well), and it is not just against Mr.Okamoto's wishes, it is against every inventor's wishes.

Unfortunately it is very hard to lock out these "fake or Clone" puzzles from the market.
Many times you cannot know witch one is the "original" and witch one is not.

If you watch the following picture. at the top shelf you can see only clone cubes. And this is only the tip of the iceberg...

Tell me that 4x5x6 is fully functional!

There's no better puzzle then a cuboid, and if that's fully-functional I'll be absolutely amazed!

NO, I'm sorry it is just one extended 4x4x4 cube. But it is looks great when you scramble it.

Very nice collection. I think it starts to seriously suffer from the storage shortcoming (just like mine). I see many "towers" of 4 puzzles in your collection; I only try to allow 3, to increase visibility and stability. I know that sometimes such towers fall... With potential damage to the rare puzzles.

Does it happen often to you? I was lucky until now, but it is not difficult when you have no children. I am willing to prepare my collection to the day small children will power the house. Any hints, anyone?

The only preparation I made when the bug came along was to make sure the puzzles that had parts that might come off were put up on the shelf-tiled puzzles, old beaded puzzles that may be getting brittle. Other than that, I think the best thing I did was to let her use them as toys and teethers. She's never been a problem with puzzles-it's the adults who are the problem!

Kids learn to respect things if they have access to them. Last night, she played with some of Uwe's puzzles that were either prototypes and not very sturdy, or almost as old as I am. Not a broken piece or misaligned turn to be found!

If you can I would bolt your shelf to the wall and maybe make a glass door on the front so you can view it and have protection.

Just for the record, glass doors pose a problem in themselves. Glass is easily breakable by little fists and heads that go bump. Safer to put them up high if that is what you really want to do.

I guess I was to specific. Glass is what came to mind first but also their is plexyglass, acrilic and similar materials.

Cool! Although educating is never to be understated, I think it also depends on a kid's temperament. One of my nephews (5 years old) is over-dynamic, needs a new toy every minute. My collection is under a great danger when he comes. Usually he will not stop until he drops one of the puzzles. Then he says, it is not me, it fell on its own. But on the other hand, we may then have a quality time working on assembling that collapsed puzzle from its pieces (if lucky) and this may make him calm for several minutes.

Maybe I need to try to give him fresh Uwe's prototypes and see whether this helps.
