Thomas hihihi Thomas. Regarding the Varikon Box, it isn't as easy to solve as I first thought.

Got some very nice puzzles today, for example an octahedron missing in my collection! Here is no picture of the package, but of the rare puzzles themselves:

Sweet! Good to see that it arrived intact. The guy at the post office said that it would take about 10 days to arrive. When I asked for a low ball estimate, he said "12 days". It's good to see that it arrived so quickly (1 week). Good to see that you got it into a cube so quickly, too. Now the real challenge begins: getting all the corners to match with the same colour. As far as I know, there's only one way to do that, but given all the ways there is to make a double cube and how many ways he tiles can be oriented when it's flat, there could very well be more. Good luck!

Here is one of the items that arrived in an unexpected package...... which was actually sent to someone else by mistake and then forwarded to me. This was made by one of our forum members and was part of a package of things designed to cheer me up. It worked! This gesture means a lot more to me than the contents of the package, and I am really very grateful. I can't explain in words how I felt when the package arrived. Thank you again! Attachment:

Just got an updated version of Vesa Timonen's Twin Puzzle Ring. The blue pieces are the old design, in which the parts were so tight it was hard to assemble without fracturing. (Friends broke both my old-style white rings.) The white ring at the right is the improved new-style; it looks just like the old one but slides together easily once you figure out the right moves!

I actually went ahead and ordered Oskar's puzzle rings "Sixth Sense", "Take Five" and "Cross rings" all in metal. Only to find out that they were too small to be printed in metal. If you like puzzle rings VWP then you should take a look at those. they are still available in plastic. BUT what is that little blue thing in the middle of those rings in the picture?

Perhaps a puzzle collector near me is getting rid of his collection, or maybee I'm just lucky, but I found another Lockout puzzle at the same thrift store as the first! I might be selling one. I would upload pictures but something won't let me (I don't know what but I keep on getting a "file is invalid" message). I suppose it's not the same as getting a package awith a rare puzzle but it's a rare puzzle nonetheless

Are you sure they solve like the traditional rings? if so I am very disapointed. I thought he'd come up with some cool puzzle rings. Oh well I like the looks of the, and nobody can solve my Cast Ring, original puzzle ring. Nice Gemstone I have also grown my own crystals back when I was a child. very amusing

Perfectly timed, I just got a stainless-steel version of Vesa Timonen's engagement-puzzle-ring, shown here with a previously-built one in white SLS. This is the first time I've built parts in metal. At the same time another box arrived with four square-cut blue sapphires so I put them in the picture too. Shiny! (If you click the picture for the close-up view you can see the build lines in the stainless steel.) Attachment:

When I said Oskar's puzzle rings are "so much like traditional rings" I was only judging their appearance. I hadn't tried one, so I don't know if they solve like traditional rings. Undoubtedly there are some similarities, since they're permanently linked like traditional rings. But Oskar's comments imply they've got some unusual or innovative surprises. Vesa's puzzle rings are only about $5 in SLS, which is an ideal material for them. The stainless steel ring was a bit more costly and took longer, but it was certainly worthwhile.

Jared wrote: Where are you getting the gems from? When I buy natural gems I get them from GemSelect. I get Lab-created and synthetic gemstones from Synthetic Gems Thailand and PehnecGems. Synthetic Gems has a better selection of synthetics and lots of natural gemstones. PehnecGems emphasizes Cubic Zirconia, sometimes in ridiculously large sizes, but the larger ones are so badly cut you don't have to be an expert to notice. Just to keep this answer puzzle-related, here's a picture of five 8.1 carat rubies etched with a 2x2x2 cube. I plan to use these as iconic tchotchkes to share with puzzle fans and friends. I also etched a few larger gemstones while experimenting.

Thank you for the name and pictures, Milan!
I just looked it up on Jaap's Puzzle Page and it seems quite interesting. I like looking at pictures of all the puzzles out there so that when I stumble across one on a flea market I will recognize it as a puzzle. For some reason I didn't have this one on my radar, but will from now on.

If you speak about UFO in the pink box and the DCD gift from Erno Rubik, then I think the guys from whom I got these puzzles still have an extra instance of each. But I can't really speak on behalf of other forum members. I hope there are enough hints.

I find it nicer (the logo on the top rather than the bottom whole-white side). With several simple twists any DCD-2009 cube may become as special. P.S. This reminds me about Linus Torwalds to whom many unintentionally refer as Linu x Torwalds.

I just got my first puzzle to truly classify as "rare" and "arriving in a package": My package containing a white Dino Star arrived from a nice guy in Hungary It's very nice (turning is good but it locks up a bit)

These are Jeruel Crystal Puzzles on a very badly polished rosewood table! I never noticed that before. Looks like that one needs refinishing. Each puzzle is between 40 and 110 pieces. I've only 7 more to put together. I wish I had never bought these for the bug, the pieces are so difficult for me to see in low wattage lighting. They really should be done in natural light.

Those puzzles are so annoying. I always do them in my kitchen where I can see them better.

Don't have any photos as of yet, but I got a number of nice puzzles over the holiday season. I got a nice care package from a special friend in Hong Kong with some really interesting puzzles in it, I got a black Jing's Pyraminx, a white flowerminx, a Qubami, and a Rubik's Touch Cube. I have to say, the touch cube is really stunning, especially when it just sits in the cradle and auto-scrambles, but I wouldn't have paid $150 for it. My brother got it for me and said he got it at a steal of a price compared to the original selling price.
