There were just so many impressive puzzles!

Sooo... a 3x3x4 using a completely new build method which allows any person to make one using simple hand tools doesn't quality for a nomination?

;)

It was revealed after December 31st. It may have been in existence, but it wasn't publicly displayed. :P

Don't worry. It's in the running for PotY08.

@Darren: Keep in mind this isn't including simple mods. Half truncated, Trajber's Octahedrons, etc. Only new mods.

@Ethan: That's why my original list was narrowed down before hand. People said they would rather have this list.

Questions for you.

Why wasn't the Tony Fisher's ICOSAHEDRON MEGAMINX added? It was in the link you provided this year also.

Why was the Inverted Megaminx in this years vote? Vadim Posted: Fri Nov 24, 2006. I think you just looked at the last posted date.

When you vote for Cubic 3x3x5 from Puzzlemaster42 you vote for all 4 designs?

viewtopic.php?t=8237

Here you go for the Superman-Fused Pillow Cube.

viewtopic.php?t=8047&highlight=pillow+cube

1) The Icosahedron Megaminx wasn't added because it wasn't an original design. If I included that, I would have had to include all of the half truncated cubes and such as well.

2) Just the concept. So basically all of the designs count as one.

3) Thanks. I didn't realize I didn't get a link for that.

SORRY!

In my haste, I misread it as 3x4x4.

I'm going to add it in quick. Sorry Jin.

No. Votes have same value. In the end I take the total number of tallies and the ten puzzles that have the most votes goto the finals.

In no order -

Pantazis' magics - I particularly liked the Dino Cube - but this will have to do: Dazzling Cube

Hidetoshi's Bump Cube: Original and White versions

Thomas' Cubic Megaminx and Thomas' Cube (nice variation on the Golden Cube).

Vadim's V-Cube

The Drizzle's Danger Cube

Puzzlemaster42 - Super X 2.0 and Helicopter Cube

Katsuhiko Okamoto's Void and Bevel Cube

Tony Fisher's BiCone (I would vote for all of them!)

(Damn, you're right, there's so many to pick from! Sorry, if I left anyone out. I would love to play with all of them and it's just so hard to pick! I'm going on 10+ minutes writing up this post  )

For me it's the same problem as for the "news" posts. Long lists of links to puzzles which I don't have the time to visit. If there were thumbnails for each puzzle, I'd participate in the poll.

Go and wait for the finals then.

[edit]

Any you've been around long enough, even if you slightly browse this forum once a week, you've most likely checked out the high profile puzzle mods.

Lee, I left that out because it was made into the "Tutt's Icosaminx".

In no particular order:

(1) Biohazard.
Reason: New concepts are always a breeze to this forum.

(2). Katsuhiko Okamoto's Void cube.
Reason: I loved to play with a 3x3x3 cube while having my finger stuck in it!

(3). Hidetoshi's Bump Cube.
Reason: One of the cutest 3x3x3 mods ever made.

(4). Thomas' 4x4x5 Wall Cube.
Reason: It looks like a real wall!!!

(5). Vadim's V-Cube.
Reason: A *real* V-cube with a "V"!

(6). io's Tetrex.
Reason: This puzzle reminds me of alien technology!

(7). Puzzlemaster42's Supre X.
Reason: It's not every day that you see the offspring of a 2x2x2 Cube with a Dino Cube!

(8). Tutt's Icosaminx.
Reason: Just look at it... it has some Emperor aura!

(9). Tony Fisher's Deltiodal Icositetrahedron.
Reason: Name + looks = super intimidating!

(10). p|astic's Masterball Cube.
Reason: The Masterball, one of the best looking puzzles... has now been cubed!

(11) Although this is not supposed to count, I *have* to mention my Panta-flips LOL
Reason: A completely new type of stringing should mark a big step forward for folding puzzles.

There are so many more I would want to list. My heart is saddened for not being able to mention more than ten...

Pantazis

PS By the way, I just realised that most of my magics in the list were designed in 2006, not 2007.
(the dates for each post should be a good reference for the year they were made).

Well, I have 3.25 puzzles in the list, and only 10 votes...

Jin H Kim - 3x3x4
io - Tetrex
Kastellorizo - Pantaflips
Puzzlemaster42 - Helicopter Cube
Lee T. - Tutt"s Icosaminx
Frederic Plateus - Fancy Stone
Aleh - Circle Cube
Katsuhiko Okamoto - Void Cube
Tony Fisher - Hexaminx
Dlitwin - Biohazard

The bump cube would have made the list, but it is technically a 2006 puzzle (don't tell Noah)

Master Diamond Dodecahedron: Impressive
Thomas' Cube: Very well done
Cylindar-1: Worth a vote for the stickering alone!
Danger Cube: Oooh, curved surfaces...
Helicopter cube: I bet this would look *awesome* in blue...
Tutt's Icosaminx: My collection needs one
Plateus Bipolar: Very pretty
Aleh's Circle Cube: Very nice
Void Cube: Amazing engineering
Hexaminx: Very nice build out

I could barely get the list to 15, and taking it down to 10 was a crime. Excellent work by all.

Dario DiBattista's Amorphous Cube - the puzzle that most influenced me this year

Pyramid Skewb - I had hoped someone would build this

Tutt's Icosaminx - I had REALLY hoped someone would build this

Biohazard - a totally fresh idea

2x2x2x50 - for its sheer chutzpah

Danger Cube - for sweat, blood, and tears

Keylock Cube - simple, elegant ingenuity

Helicopter Cube - why oh why didn't I bid on this?

Super X 2.0 - I did bid on this (and lost)

HANZOH (Half Turn Cube) - an elegant new variant on a 3x3x3

I have 2 things to tell you in a nice way because of what you said earlier  . No I'm not trying to make this harder for you. I'm just trying to be fair and give credit to the original designer.

Questions for you.

Why wasn't the Tony Fisher's ICOSAHEDRON MEGAMINX added? It was in the link you provided this year also.

1) The Icosahedron Megaminx wasn't added because it wasn't an original design. If I included that, I would have had to include all of the half truncated cubes and such as well.

The original Greenhill's tetrahedron was made by Anthony Greenhill. So why is this in the listed here in the Puzzle of the Year?

The original designer of the OCTAHEDRON FROM A 4x4x4 was made by Jürgen. So why is this in the listed here in the Puzzle of the Year?

The last 8 rows of pictures at the bottom not including the bottom one.

Darren: The Square-1 tetrahedron isn't exactly like it, but it is heavily based on it.

As for the 4x4 Trajber's, I didn't see that before. It's not in the top ten, so it won't be mentioned anyways.

Also all votes for the bump cube are out now. Another error on my part.

All voting is closed now.
