Voucher? Does that mean these are just pre-orders, then? I are confused.
EDIT: Regardless, I ordered 1 Megaminx and 1 Crystal.

Speaking of Christmas, I was so excited, I think I just got some coal in my pants.
Never the less I am stoaked!
It looks gorgeous.

I just showed the minx and crystal to my parents so hopefully I'll have the two puzzles eventually. I wish I knew a little more about what Meffert means by "voucher".

No Simon. He he jsut putting that in there to let people know that tehre is a faster shipping method, that's all. If we had to pay $20 for shipping, I would just wait to buy it when it was actually released!

Well he doesn't actually have the puzzles yet. Oh and I just asked my dad, and he said voucher means something that can be replaced, such as a food stamp (thought no one uses those anymore). So when you buy this special voucher, as soon as he recieves the puzzles, he will send them, I think.

also, i think the EMS is probably if you want them by Christmas. I've used EMS shipping before, it takes about 4 Days to get to the east coast. They deliver in the mornings around 9 A.M.. Also they deliver on sundays.

Well I'm gonna pay almost $60 for the puzzles (my dad anyway), so another $20 would be over the limit!

This sucks. My mom doesn't like ordering stuff online, and has already spent a lot of cash for Christmas... I don't know if I'm ever going to get a pyraminx crystal, let alone a decent minx.

Just try to work it out with your mom. Do you expect any cash from relatives? Offer to give her the cash if she orders. Make it clear that if it doesn't work out, you're out of the money, not her. Find out who her credit card is through and show her how to make a one-time use number.
If she's still adament against it, then offer some money to someone here to be an escrow for you.

When I tried to order the site to which I was directed to to complete payment said it could not complete my transaction because the site was too busy. It doesn't really relate to Meffert's at all, but has anyone else had this problem? I haven't tried again yet just in case the order actually did go through and my receipt didn't come immediately (which has happened in the past)

Here is my 2 cents on the topic and how I understand it.
You can by a voucher to preorder the puzzles. This will guarantee you a puzzle when they become available. Based on what I have read that is anytime between now and the first part of next year.
Order anything from Mefferts (except for the 4 voucher items), you need to order by Dec 11th to receive by Christmas. If you order later than that and want it for Christmas, pay $20 more for EMS shipping. The $20 has nothing to do with the vouchers. The vouchers are a pre-order item only, but does guarantee you the puzzle since this is a VERY LIMITED production run.
You can only preorder by purchasing a voucher BEFORE Christmas. After Christmas the voucher option expires and you will have to wait for the release of the puzzles and take the chance of running out of stock. I don't know how many of these he is going to make, but I am sure it will be somewhat based on the email surveys he has done.

I think one of the best ways also to approach your mom, is to say that the Pyraminx crystal, in the past sold for over $1000, is likely never to be made again, and now because it is finally being mass produced, you can get it for under $40.
Also, concerning the megaminx you can take the same approach, and state how long you've been waiting for it to be released.
Edit- I purchased the megaminx and the Pyraminx crystal.

Mr. Twisty
Are you saying that even with the voucher you don't have a 100% chance of getting them? If so, what would be the point of the voucher?

No, if you don't buy the voucher, you can still get one when they are released, but run the risk of missing out of getting one.

I disagree with this part. In his note, he says: "Purchasing a Gift Certificate for however many of an item also protects you from missing out"
So if he gets pre-oders for x, he'll make x+y. I think the "Missing out" comes from the fact that if he's done, and there's more than "y" orders after that, then you may miss out.
For those worried about pre-ordering, it was done with the Dogic and no one had any problems as far as I know.

Also, show her the testimonies here... I mean we have all pretty much ordered from Meffert's before and he has proved to be a reliable source.
Plus, doesn't he take Paypal? Isn't that so you don't have to keep punching in your CC #'s to run the risk or whatever she's worried about!

So Mr. Twisty is saying that even though you order regualr shipping, and you buy by Dec. 11, you will get it by Dec. 25?

Wait, I don't think I get this. Are you guys saying that the vouchers ensure the puzzles will arrive by X-mas? Also do you have to buy a voucher AND the puzzle when it's released? Please tell me your opinion.

If you buy a voucher, you will receive the puzzle after christmas. Buying the voucher guarentee's you the puzzle, and no you will not have to buy it again.
There is a chance that the list of vouchers is longer than the puzzles produced, but i doubt mefferts would let that happen.
Mefferts was only telling us about EMS shipping for three days, in order to tell us if we wanted another puzzle(one in stock right now) we would have to use EMS shipping to receive the gift by Christmas.

I believe that this is just a pre-order, and that the idea was that you pay for the puzzle, but you need to wait until he gets them in. I don't think that there is much of a chance of anyone getting his new puzzles before Christmas. I don't want to email Meffert now because I'm sure many others have, but I think the smartest thing for him to do is to go onto this thread and answer some questions himself.

the only way you can get them by christmas is if you use EMS shipping. and even then it looks as though you might not get them by them. But its def. possible that you do. its all determined by when he gets them from the factory.

To everyone who responded to me:
I have tried talking my mom into getting the puzzle. The bottom line is, she doesn't like to order online, and she has already spent a lot of money on my xmas gifts.
Of course, I could wait until after xmas to get the puzzle, but I run the risk of completely missing out on a once in a lifetime chance.
I would be happy to pay somebody if they ordered the puzzle for me, but the problem is that it could take me months to get the money together, and then get a visa prepaid card in which to put the money on paypal with. Visa cards are my only option of online payment, and I refuse to send money/checks through the mail.

My dad's comp is more insecure than a drunken emo, they've had false charges on their credit cards so many times I've lost count.
UPDATE!!
My mom walked into the room and put the credit card on the desk in front of me. I took the hint, and I have now ordered a pyraminx crystal.
It's funny trying to order things through her, she gets worried every time the message appears on the screen, "...this will be sent through an unencrypted connection.." or something like that. Either way, I've got a pyra-crystal heading for me

Meh, I already have a cheap minx. I'm never going to be fast at them, and I'm more concerned about getting a puzzle that isn't available everywhere. If I have money left over from xmas though, you know I'm gonna be trying to get a minx.

This is great news!
I just went to Mefferts' site and purchased my xmas voucher for the Crystal and the 12-color impossiball.
As many others have mentioned, I have never had major issues when ordering from Meffert. When items are in stock I get them in about a week. Hopefully this time he'll have the new items built in just a matter of weeks.
Cheers!

For the record, I did not break the rules. The letter from Mr Meffert is available on his website.

Yay! I've been waiting a long time for the Megaminx, the Pyraminx Crystal and the 12 color impossiball are added bonuses. But I got the Minx and the crystal because I prefer twisty puzzles.
