I got my Meffert's megaminx and I relaized the red, brown and dark green sides unscrew from the core after like 2 counter-clockwise turns! I took it apart and it turns out that the screws' ends were snapped or stripped! Is it worth it to try to get replacement screws (if so, where) or should I just get a new minx altogether?

sorry, this doesnt answer your question, but...
i keep reading more and more negative things about the quality of the mefferts minx, and im glad that after purchasing my chinese knock-off that i did not spend even more money on the mefferts version. seems like a nice functioning megaminx just doesnt exist...

no, not happy at all. tiles fall off for no reason, there is only the smallest sliver of plastic to glue them back on, and it snags/locks up/catches on almost every turn. im only happy that it is a functioning megaminx that was dirt cheap, and it does have a certain charm about it.

i guess the point is, if you have one (chinese OR mefferts), dont buy the other because, apparently, both are far from perfect. each have their own particular good points and bad points.

Erik's or Stefan's site have intructions on how to make the meffert's minx 10x better than a chinese one.

If you put some super glue on the screw and let it dry like here: http://www.speedcubing.com/ton/Speedcube/makinga.htm , it should fix your problem with the minx unscrewing itself. I did this to mine and it worked fine.

Even though the mefferts minx does have some flaws, it is by far better than the chineese knockoffs and are far less likely to fall apart in mid solve.

True, I was playing with my chinese minx on a plane, and of course and entire layer popped. Fortunitly, I was sitting next to a window. My chinese minx pops 1/2 of the solves I do with it, creating impossible cases making me put pieces back in.

Time for me to throw my two cents in: I'm happy with my two Megaminxes from Mefferts.

I have one Meffert's Minx and one Chinese knockoff. I love the Meffert's version and have had no problems with it. The Chinese Minx locks up quite a bit and tends to explode...usually when it's almost solved. :?
