Hello everybody! I'd like to introduce my own simulator pCubes beta 0.1 for Windows. The Core of program is based on sources of Andrea's Cube 2.1 (I've an Adrea's permission).
http://pMetro.su/pCubes.zip
There are about 20 puzzles.
Please, write me your wishes, what to do at first.
In near future I plan:
- improve interface
- improve control
- undo/redo
- more quick drawing
- much more puzzles
- macros
- maybe OpenGl or DirectX support
- maybe stereo (anaglyph, cross-eye etc)
- maybe database of formulas
- maybe solver
- Your wishes?
PS Disabled menu items - puzzles nearly ready, but something is wrong

Hi Boris,

great work !
The simulator works fine.
Very good the new implemented puzzles.
Thank you.

Cheers,
Andrea

(edit)
PS: you must be a very good programmer, that you understand my source code.
It's difficult for me to understand my own source code after half a year.

I'm on my phone, so I can't install at the moment. Do these have text input for sequence? I know one of Andrea's simulators did. I find that a very useful feature that many simulators lack.

At this moment there is not such a feature. And I can't understand why it may be needed. Try to explain please. I think text input would be possible when the macros will be ready. Not in nearest future.

For macros, basically. Text input is great for testing longer sequences quickly. I found this especially useful for the Crazy Pentahedron puzzles and Crazy 3x3x3 Plus planets. It's just a nice feature for those of us that don't like clicking every time we want to make a turn.

Semi-review thing: Considering this has only been out for little over a week, it's remarkably well made. There are a few problems, like trying to turn a layer sometimes not turning the one you want, but overall it's well done. It's smooth, doesn't crash, and has a surprising amount of puzzles. 8/10.

For anyone who wants to run it on a Mac, I suggest using Wineskin. It seems to work pretty well for me.

Step 0: Download pCubes.

Step 1: Download Wineskin. Launch it and download one of the Wine "engines". Then click on "create new blank wrapper", name it what you want ("pCubes" presumably), and create it. This will take several minutes. By default, it will create itself in "[home folder]/Applications/Wineskin/[name you chose]". Note that this isn't the normal Applications folder, no I'm not sure why it does that.

Step 2: Launch that program, and click on "install software". Click "copy a folder inside", choose the folder where you downloaded pCubes, and select that. It will copy it into the application. It may come up with a message saying something along the lines of the executable not being found, but just press OK.

Step 3: Click "advanced", and then "test run". This will run the software so you can check that everything is working, which it should be. After it comes up with the window, you can quit the program. From now on, you should be able to just open it and it will run like normal.

Note: When starting up, the program needs to load a separate program called Wine, and this will take several minutes. After it starts up, it runs perfectly fine. Go make a cup of tea or something.

If you don't want to do all that, I've uploaded to mediafire. However, this is a biiiig file. Much bigger than the program would be normally. I've compressed it a lot, but it's still over 150 MB, expanding to over 400 MB. Personally I think it would be much easier just to do it yourself, but if you really don't want to for whatever reason, here.

Amazing work Boris. I think I'll make a video about this and point people to it. :)

Thank You!
But I must note that it's only a first beta-version, and it has many discomfort features in control, especially for non-cubic forms. Now I plan to add some puzzles else, next job - a performance and extending the functionality (to create more complex puzzles), and next - interface changes.

May I make a few suggestions for puzzles to add?

1) The original Rainbow Nautilus concept with 8 wedges on each side instead of 7 (10 through 80 degrees)
2) Mixup Kites :P and maybe a Mixup Plus Kites too
3) Master, Elite, and maybe higher Skewbs
4) Oskar's Screw Cube

1) It's not difficult, but help me to find any picture of real puzzle. I tried to solve this 8-segments puzzle, I think it's more difficult then 7-segments Nautilus.
2) Mixup Kites - possible. Mixup Kites Plus - help me to find any picture.
3) Skewbs will be added after I'll significantly change a control.
4) I saw this interesting puzzle, but I think it's not easy to paint a screw part of it. And without adequate picture users will confuse how it's working.

They don't exist in physical form. I don't happen to have any pictures...

You could try to include the 'creating your own puzzle' feature that was used in Ultimate Magic Cube where you take a solid and place your own cuts (http://www.ultimatemagiccube.com/) I wanted to make use of this but I really didn't like the way you turn multiple layers in that simulator.
I'd also like to see even layered puzzles like the master kilomix and confusion pyramid (http://www.twistypuzzles.com/cgi-bin/pu ... ?pkey=3041).

I haven't loaded this simulator up yet, but I have a question. Is there some kind of save feature where I could do part of a solve and then save it for later when I want to finish?

I think about such possibilities, but its much more complex than existing concept. So my answer is "may be in future..."

Yes. There is not any button like "Save", but saving automatically occures when You close simulator. File name is Kon.Cub. And simulator automatically loads this file when starting. In addition there is a bullon "Restore", that means "load Kon.Cub". So in this version You can manually save Kon.Cub anywhere for future experiments or simply exit and load simulator for temporary saving. In future versions I'll make saving more comfotable.
