Diamond skewb is a great rookie from the magic puzzle platoon! Mechanism works perfectly, plastic tiles look very reliable. I received mine this morning and managed to solve it several times during short brakes.
Diamond is the simplest puzzle from the whole skewb family. Solving cube shaped skewb to orientate 8 corners is most difficult part. Diamond's 8 triangles must be only placed correctly - orientation doesn't matter. Orientation of 6 apices is simpler task, because of two not three orientations and 6 not 8 elements.
Ultimate skewb will combine both tasks. Of course, we already have The Creative Puzzle Ball (or Mefferts Challenge) which is equivalent to Ultimate skewb. But what is nice in Ultimate skewb - impossibility to turn a piece with two apices by 90 degrees is evident to everybody!
All you need to solve a Diamond is elementary commutator ABA'B' and a bit of ingenuity. Cyril Castella explained some details, check out the Skewb solution at http://www.chez.com/3c99/cube/index.html
...especially if you understand French.
