Does anyone have/can take pictures/video of the latch cube mechanism? I'm curious to see how it works.

On any edge piece with an arrow, the side of the piece without an arrow has a spring-loaded plate with a right triangle (with the hypotenuse of the triangle facing "downwards"). This triangle is oriented such that when you turn in the direction of the arrow, the spring compresses, then pushes the triangle back into the mechanism. Because it is a right triangle, there is a flat surface to prevent turning in the opposite direction. I cannot provide photos as I have been unable to disassemble it.

Disassembly is the same as that of a normal 3x3, just turn a layer by 45 degrees, and use a screwdriver as a lever to lift an edge piece out.

You can actually VERY easily pop off a center cap and see the "latch" mechanism as the spring loaded right triangle pieces quicksolver mentioned function with the centers. If you're only interested in seeing how it works, this might be the best way to do so.
