Post subject: Comprehensive list of "Rubik's" products? Posted: Sun Apr 04, 2010 1:27 am |

I've tried the search, but being as this is a twisty forum, any search terms I attempted to use gave me thousands of results. So I ask: Does a comprehensive list of all "Rubik's" branded puzzles exist someplace? By this I mean a list of puzzles like the Rubik's Cube (obviously), Rubik's Twist, Rubik's Magic, Rubik's Rings, etc., etc., etc. Also, Rubik's Cubes were first produced by Ideal Toys, yes? Today (at least according to amazon) they are carried by Winning Moves as well as Hasbro. I've heard of Seven Towns Rubik's cubes as well--Is there a list of manufacturers that have produced Rubik's Cubes also? Perhaps some history of the progression? (Wikipedia doesn't give me much beyond Ideal Toys.) What companies produce the other "Rubik's brand" puzzles? So I've done some quick research, and this is pretty much all I can find: By 1983, cubes had ceased production. Few people had an interest in the toy and almost every home had one (mostly in bits). The Ideal Toy company was bought by CBS who then sold the Rubik's cube rights to Seven Towns. Source: http://www.eightyeightynine.com/games/rubiks-cube.htmland Around 1983, the frenzied popularity of the cube began to wane and sales slowed drastically. It remained in small scale production until Seven Towns took over the marketing, and licensed the Rubik Cube to the Oddzon Company for the United States market in 1995. Source: http://www.madehow.com/Volume-7/Rubik-s-Cube.html(After further research, it seems that Oddzon is a division of Hasbro Toys... but that's about all I can find.) Does anybody know any more? Thanks

I was too curious to wait so I set out to create my own list. If anyone knows something I missed please feel free to add it!
Rubik’s Cube by Hasbro (Clam shell packaging) Rubik’s Cube by Winning Moves (Hex packaging) Rubik’s 25th Anniversary Cube by Winning Moves Rubik’s Wooden 30th Anniversary Cube by Winning Moves Rubik’s 4x4 by Winning Moves (Hex packaging) Rubik’s Revenge 4x4 by Hasbro (It seems Hasbro calls it the Revenge, while Winning Moves refers to it only as a 4x4; In clam shell packaging) Rubik’s Professor by Winning Moves Rubik’s Jr. Cube by Winning Moves Rubik’s Magic by Hasbro Rubik’s 360 by Hasbro Rubik’s Key Ring by Winning Moves Rubik’s Revolution by Techno Source Rubik’s Revolution Micro Keychain by Techno Source Rubik’s Touch Cube by Techno Source Rubik’s Twist by Winning Moves Rubik’s Brain Racker by Winning Moves Rubik's Mirror Blocks by MegaHouse Rubik’s UFO by Winning Moves Rubik's Eclipse by Oddzon Rubik’s SuDoku by Seven Towns Rubik’s Triamid by Matchbox Rubik’s Tac Toe by Winning Moves Rubik’s Clock by Matchbox Rubik’s Tangle by Matchbox (for the 25 piece cardboard ones from the 90's) Oddzon (for the plastic 9 tile one) Rubik’s Maze by Matchbox Rubik’s Fifteen by Matchbox Rubik’s Dice by Matchbox Rubik’s Bricks (Rubik’s Soma Cube) by Oddzon Rubik’s Rabbits by Matchbox
I have separated these to be posted as games rather than twisty puzzles. (Adjustments will be made after more research.)
Rubik's Card Game by Ideal Toys and Winning Moves Rubik's Infinity by Oddzon? Rubik's Checkers Challenge by Winning Moves Rubik's Magic Strategy Game by Matchbox Rubik's Race by Ideal Toys (Now known as Frame It by Hilco) Rubik's Line Up by Ideal Toys
Rubik’s Rings by ???????? Rubik’s Illusion by ?????? Rubik’s Shells by ?????? Rubik’s Tangram by ?????? Rubik’ s Cheese (Sajt?) by ?????? Rubik’s Royal Brainteaser by ?????? Rubik’s ZigZaw by ?????? Rubik's World by ?????
I intentionally left out themed Rubik’s cubes and sticker variations such as the Rubik’s Transformers Allspark cube, Rubik’s Icon, Rubik’s Ice Cube, etc.
I also did not include books.
As I have time I will add the manufacturers/producers for the one's marked with ??????'s. I will also try to group this list in some meaningful way, such as by date of production or alphabetically. I haven't thought of it yet.
[Edits: I will be updating this list as people shoot me ideas, suggestions, and info on these or more puzzles. Thanks to everyone who has contributed so far, and thank you for those who will contribute in the future.]

Also, the Revolution came out in keychain format as well.
Also, our good friend Mirror Blocks seems absent from the above list.

Georges, I'm interested in anything that carries the Rubik's name/brand. Basically anything that wouldn't be considered a clone.
Mirror Blocks and Keychain Revolution added, thanks Swami.

I've never found proof of that. Rubik's Eclipse Oddzon Rubik's card gameRubik's.com

Looking at the pictures below, I tend to answer 'yes' to your question, Konsumex being the assignee and the sticker showing "Rubik Sajt". Attachment:

That will teach me. I can't remember looking for a patent. I always wondered if the Rubik name was just used to sell more. My thoughts were along the lines of when these came out it was when everyone was jumping on the band wagon-why not one more to make some money. To be honest, this is one that I have never investigated much. thanks Georges!

Thank you Georges and Roxanne! Somehow I knew you two would have information to contribute Georges, do the Politechnika, Politoys, ITC, Idéal Loisirs, Tsukuda, etc. cubes carry the Rubik's logo? If so, would you care to share some background information on them? i.e. Where/when were they in production and perhaps why the companies/manufacturers switched over the years? Thanks!

Here are most of my official Rubik's cubes. Clicking on the pictures gives rarely/sometimes/often more information, like this example: Mondadori 1982 World Championship Montecarlo Cube with Cubo Magico on white centre, in PB labelled - Offerta Mondiale "Montecarlo 82" Cubo Magico Originale Mondadori, with 1980 insert plus inserted entry form for a world championship in Montecarlo in 1982. CUBO MAGICO Italian versions distributed by Mondadori Giochi. This is a nice example showing an official cube without Rubik's on the logo. The same goes for early production runs of ITC, Politoys, ... where the white center didn't have a logo at all.
