I have finished the first working version shown in this YouTube video. All three puzzles work. In terms of performance (on my 1st generation touch) the 223 is fine, the 334 is acceptable but the 445 is not yet good enough. This was a cut and paste (almost) port from my PocketPC version mixing the C++ in to the Apple Objective C framework. As such I was disappointed with the performance - my 3 year old Pocket PC ran the software very fast. Therefore I have some optimisations and improvements planned before I release this to the Apple Store. I know from family members that the 2nd generation touch is considerably faster and the 3GS phone is faster still. So hopefully with a bit more work this project will have a happy ending.

Be the first to solve them on the iPhone (I have iPod Touch only).
These are now available free on App Store. Search for 'cuboids'.
The App will run on 1st Generation iPod Touch but is best suited to later models specially for the larger puzzles.

Do I have to have 3.1.2 or higher to run it? I don't want to have to pay £3 for this app (especially as my iPod is 1st gen). Alex

iPhone charges for updates? That's seriously messed up.

I have a relatively old iPod Touch, but I did pay the $3 (or whatever it was) for the OS upgrade. Some upgrades are free. I guess this was a major one. Anyway, I have tried several cubing apps before and have always been disappointed with the way they worked. Mark, I just downloaded yours, and I love it. It just works! Great job.
Long ago and far away when I was a high school math teacher in a Christian school in San Bernardino I had some students that would finish their work early and have time to kill. I taught them a little game they could play that I called "guess my number" on a scrap of paper. Basically it was Mastermind. I also remember playing Mastermind (the actual plastic board with pegs) with my wife when we first got married. And I know we played it with our kids through the years. Fond memories.
I don't know how much I will actually play these on my iPod, because there is something sweet about the actual game and puzzle that can't be experienced on a flat little screen, but having them on the iPod makes them very portable and available. And it gives me 3 puzzles I don't have at all. Better a flat little screen than not at all, especially when it works so nicely.
Thanks for these two apps.

That fact that you have to pay for firmware updates on anything is still ridiculous, even more so if it's a major update.

@APJ There's nothing in the code that requires more than 3.0 OS, but it has been built at 3.1.2.
Try it and feedback.
I can reissue it at 3.0 if there's a problem.
@Lykwid: Very possibly. I've already written FTO and Megaminx - they're on my website.

This is really a good app. I've tried three or four free iphone apps for twisty puzzles, and this one is the best. The turning is smooth. The pieces always move in the way I expect them to go. Good job.

Try it and feedback. Apple sucks. It will only let me download 3.1.3, my brother had the same problem but he'd already bought an app. I hate Apple. I'll stick to the computer ones you have (I worked out my 3x3x2 method on your virtual one). Alex
