Hello all,

I am a new member of the Twisty community and hope to learn (and mail) a lot being on this forum. It impresses me how much creativity and skills there is among the members of this forum!

Some short info about myself:
I started cubing at age 12 in 1981 and did contests in that year with only a few competitors and without speedcubes ;-) I was always thinking about how it would be solving cubes if cubes were fused. Luckily now these cubes exist. The variations of all those rotational puzzles are fascinating (and of course the mechanisms too). In the newspapers I read about then new cubes like the 4x4, but never saw them in a shop at that time. I am not a cube builder myself, but more a collector (>100 cubes, some of them the handmade ones) and then trying to solve the puzzles.
I am also a member of the Dutch Cube Club and went last year for the first time to the DCD, where I already met some of you. On Sunday I will be there too in Eindhoven. The programme for the DCD2009 is great, even Ernő Rubik comes to the DCD! I am looking forward to meeting some of you there.
Some other hobbies of mine: fossils (especially trilobites), astronomy/cosmology, comics, tennis, biking, darts etc. (so time is the problem).
I work in the financial sector.

Best regards,

Paul Hille :solved:

Welcome to the forum Paul! I too am a collector (and Dutch), it's great to share ideas here. Maybe we get a change to chat in Eindhoven next week, I'll be there too (and a whole bunch of other NKC-CFF/Twisty members). looking forward to meeting you.

Welcome Paul! We need people who have such past experience in puzzles.
(by the way... just curious... have you ever found any puzzle fossils? :-P )

:)

Hi Paul,

Reading your introduction I see many similarities. I also started cubing at age 12 in 1981 and I am also Dutch. We might have met each others at the Dutch championship back then! I am much more a collector then a speedcuber at the moment.

I went to some DCDs and always liked it a lot. Unfortunately I missed the last three because the DCD is on the same day as the Amsterdam Marathon which is one of my other hobbies. Especially this year I regret not going as Ernö Rubik is coming. If not running I will go next year again.
I am not a very active poster at this forum but I read the forum a lot.

Bst Rgrds, Stefan

Thank you all for the warm welcome!

Yes Hidetoshi, the reply was in Dutch, but the rest of my mails will be in English!

Hello Fabio,
It was around time indeed, nice to meet you on the forum and keep on building those great puzzles!

Hello Kastellorizo,
Yes fossils finding is always puzzling ( and most of the time the puzzle is incomplete) and sometimes they have symmetry too like sea urchins or sea stars that show five fold symmetry. Symmetries in nature also interest me!

Hello Kelvin,
Thank you, I hope to meet you too on Sunday!

Hello Stefan,

Thank you and indeed there are some similarities! ;-) A pity that the marathon coincides with the DCD. Hopefully we can meet another time.
In 1981 I only did competition in Rotterdam, where I lived most part of my life, so we didn’t meet at that time at the Dutch nationals. Last year I was asked at the DCD by Ron van Bruchem to participate at the speedcubing contest at the Netherlands 2008, but unfortunately I ruined my time ( I got a bit nervous with the worldtop around me ;-). Even back in 1981 I had better times ; -(
I think I will give it a retry next Month, although I have hardly time to try (one of) the speedcubing method of which I don’t know yet all the formula’s.
Good luck (and good weather) with the marathon.

Best regards,

Paul
