I was just browsing the usual sites and found this in an auction description. It sounds very interesting so I thought I'd post it.

"The great old Hungarian Supernova puzzle is here again! Some guys bought the factory it was produced by in the Eighties, found the mold, cleaned it and now this high quality toy goes on a trial production. Not in sale yet. Few copies made only and nobody knows the outcome of the trial.
Again, the quality is the same as the old puzzle’s was, colors are slightly different, it turns very well."

Would be an unusual thing to make up unless trying to peddle what are actually just the cheap clones... I'll keep an eye out!

If so, I would think twice before buying it. It says the colors are slightly different, that means the beautiful gold and silver color on a supernova may be changed and therefore, the characteristic of the supernova will be destroyed. Supernova has the unique gold and silver color stickers on it that distinguished it from other chinese megaminx.

Edit: Found the supernova that you are talking about. It looks like a supernova but I am not an expert in this so don't take my words seriously. You may ask someone in the forum through PM to make sure about that.

From what I can tell it certainly looks like the original. As for stickers the gold and silver are available (seek how I stickered my Kilominx) but the bright orange isn't something you are likely to find. It degrades over time and I believe has a decent amount of lead in it. I don't know that it could be found these days.

That auction was actually advertised here in the forum. It is a prototype of the upcoming production. He received it at the Hungary Open 2008, competition; so yes it's legit,

I just got my new production run Hungarian Supernova.

Image

More pictures are here:

http://www.helm.lu/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=12106

On all the pictures: left = old / right = new

This new Supernova seems to be ready for speedcubing.
I am not into speedcubing, but I can tell if a puzzle turns good or not.
This one turns so smooth I can't believe it (for a factory made puzzle).

The only difference so far (apart from turning smoothness) are the stickers that are somewhat more rounded than 25 years ago.

Besides that, the gold color stickers(at least from what I saw on the picture) on the old supernova have those shiny stuff which remains as the 'characteristic' of an old supernova to differentiate it from the reproduced one.

Mr. Szigeti, is there any way that you could get some replacement sticker sets for the Supernova?

I will ask the Supernova's producer about the replacement stickers in the new year. Should not be a problem..
This is not exactly the same as the old one was.

Yet another batch have been produced, I got my puzzle today.

AND I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!

I have always wanted a Supernova although I have not been collecting for so many years, it ment a lot to me that I got it. I was willing to give away my Smart Alex puzzle for
this gem. But Klara, a fellow Norwegian collector told me about this store - the same did kinda Georges. Then I saw this amazing store selling them,

I almost want to save up and send them a huge donation.

When I got the V-7 in my hands and turned it for the first time, that is a feeling I will never forget, (one of my passions about puzzles is the feel of it).

When I opened the white box and saw the puzzle I was already impressed, but when I turned it I got the V-7 feel..... Without a doubt the best megaminx out there.

I cant understand it, but of all the puzzles of my collection -

this is one of my favorites.

(Sorry for brining up and old tread but I did not want to make a new one since this one was already here.)

Thanks to the people making this puzzle come back into the world again. I cant thank you enough.

<<3 LOVE!

Alex

I dont know much of the supernova as I have never held one or anything.

so would you honestly say that it beats Mefferts minx? and even drews pro minx?

I might concider getting another one of these dodecahedral babies!

This is my opinion, so I'm sure that somebody will have a different one.

I have a Supernova, and it turns much smoother than the Mefferts Megaminx.
Supposedly, the turning is taken care of with the new Mefferts batch available but I'd prefer confirmation before spending $28 on yet another Megaminx.

P.S. - You can get good results by following Pimp My Megaminx on YouTube.

Send a mail to cubeandstuff(ætt)yahoo.com and ask! :D

I have over 9 mefferts megaminxes, some original never ever lubed or anything. And some really altered, I mean better springs and better screws, some
sanded and lubed all over the place!

 Nothing even comes close to this. And its a Supernova! WILD!

I have the new holey megaminx as well, it has this new mechanism its better but not as good as this beast!

Stunning.

BTW I support the mefferts megaminx all the way and say that if it really stood between buying Mefferts Mega || Supernova

I would say: BUY BOTH!

I have an original Megaminx, that I bought in 1983(?), and it turned very stiffly at its best. I'm sure they have improved. But if the Supernova is the smoothest, I want one!

My supernova is like a megaminx GOD!!

Its such a beautifull puzzle and great for speedcubing!
Although you have to get used to its colorscheme, but I love it.

SO TRUE!

I mean, it would be the best if I could get cubesmith to cut me some fluorescent colors for it!!!!
