To speed up some of the larger puzzles could you disable anti-aliasing on movement?

Hello! I'll think about it, but now I don't really understand why it is necessary. And how to determine on what puzzles antiaialsing must be disabled or not. I think this is a special feature and is not essential.

WOW!!! Would it help if I told you I think you have a pretty good understanding on the DoDeps? I'm very flattered that someone would make a simulator for these. And I've very happy there is now such a low cost alternative out there that lets people play with them. Great job...

Great, great work you are doing Boris!!
Don't stop please :)

I've only one minor suggestion, it would be nice IMO to have the ability to turn a face just clicking on it (+ctrl +right click), maybe it could be a user choice, click OR drag to turn...

I can't run the simulator on my work PC but I assume its this puzzle:

http://twistypuzzles.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=18861

If so its Chopasaurus not Choposaurus.

Yip - that´s the puzzle. Thanks Carl.
919 parts! Wow :o . It looks so simple.
I guess that is why it is not mass produced.

Thanks to Boris we can enjoy it virtually :-)

Hello Boris,

You have made a incredibly good simulator. I LOVE IT :!:
I was going to play with the BiN5 cube, but see that there is a small mistake :? . The bottom-right corner is a 2x2x2 block, but should be three 1x1x2 blocks plus one 1x1x1 block?
Can you correct it?

Cheers
KJ

you are right (of course). I love your bandaged cubes. They are easy to make and lots of fun  . Not the type of puzzles you solve in one day.

Ok, what I'm missing about the "Brick cube"?
Red face is turning 2 layers (they seem locked) but i do not see bandaging. (Or maybe I saw a 2x1x1 solid brick once, briefly, in a moment of morning hallucination? :) )

The idea is that all layers NOT containing block 3x2x1 are turning together. As far as I know, this puzzle exists in reality. Ask Grigr for details.

This is similar to Oskar Enabler Cube - here you can twist the only faces which have this brick.
this puzzle is in development ...

I would love to get this simulator, but my parents don't like me downloading things on the computer. I was lucky to get cube explorer.

However, I would like to point out that I really like the way this cube simulator turns. I also think it would be cool to be able to pick the color scheme, as I don't use the standard color scheme (My 3x3s have orange and green swapped). That simulator I just links to uses the Japanese color scheme by the way.

Keep up the good work. Whenever I get my own computer, I'll be sure to download this.

Hello! In the latest vesion (build 27) pCubes is able to export and import xml files. In the xml-file you may (in any text editor) find lines like <Face Color="009600"> (this is hex string in form RRGGBB, i.e. Red Green and Blue), so replace its to any color you want and so on, and you'll have your own coloring of a puzzle. I don't plan to add visual possibility of changing colors in nearest versions.

In this version some puzzles do not import xml correctly: Nautilus, Wheels of wisdom and puzzles with drawings: jailbreak, dodep etc.

WOW!!! You are fast. I just put the first DoDep kit together last weekend and seeing these in simulators so fast just amazes me. Two questions...

(1) Who is Grigorusha? Is this the programmer that created these DoDeps in the simulator? I'm the guy that made the physical versions so to see "Dodep by Grigorusha" troubles me. Am I missing something? Hmmm... google pointed me to this:

http://www.shapeways.com/shops/grigorusha

Hmmm... is this just a case of mistaken identity?

(2) Can you explain the dot pattern on the faces to me? These puzzles move like the DoDep kit puzzles as best I can tell but the behavior of each face is determined by the face center and the core. So I don't understand why there are dots on other pieces. Is this related to my first question?

I'm not upset. I just want to understand the attribution for grigorusha and the markings on these DoDeps. I sort of view these as my babies and was wondering why they were coming down with the measles.

Thanks...
Carl

Oh, no, May be I writed that new incorrectly, please forgive me to my English. Please, write my how to write news correctly. I meant "Dodep plus" by Grigorusha, and placed it in menu Cubic\Dodep.

"Dodep plus" - that name was proposed by me, because analogous idea (not mechanism), and Crigr (Grigorusha) doesn't concern it. If you think that my proposal was incorredted, I'll change this name.

Thank you.

I'm good with DoDep plus being used to refer to the non-planetary versions. Though you say:
Boris wrote:

This is what I don't understand... why the " by Grigorusha"? You later say:
Boris wrote:
and Crigr (Grigorusha) doesn't concern it.
so why is his name tied to the DoDep's in your posts? I don't see it in the simulator itself.

If you want to use my name it's Carl Hoff but I just don't understand the connection to Crigr (Grigorusha).

I'm also still trying to understand the info that the dots on the model are supposed to convey.

Thanks,
Carl

If the side has only 'one dot' parts, then only one layer turnable. If there are only 'two dots' parts then two layers turnable. If both - no layer turnable.

Oh, sure! Yes, Dodep is your idea and i think this is geat idea! I corrected all news and add your name, i'm sorry that I didn't it at that moment. You see, before some moment I didn't write authors at all, and this was because I hoped to write quickly normal database of puzzles to my program with pictures, authors, searching etc instead of current incovenient menu. But work is delayed (you see, versions are still 'beta'), and I began to write authors of ideas in news. In future database your name of course will be at field "Author".

And your opinion is important to me, what to do with current name and menu - 1) change name 2) separate menu 3) both 4) keep.

Thank you

Hello Carl

when I saw your puzzle and played with it in the simulator Boris.
I invented a new mechanism that allows you to block layers with another cubes (not centers).
1. if on face there is a square with 2 points, then you can turn the bandaged 2 layers (1 +2)
2. if on face there is a square with 1 point, then you can turn only one first layer (1)
3. If there are no points on the face, you can freely rotate any layer (1 or 2)
4. if on face there is a square with 1 and 2 points, then you can not rotate any layers.

I came up with for this puzzle another name, but Boris suggested "DoDeep plus" ...

Ahhhh.... I now finally understand the dots. Thank You!!! Yes this is grigr's original modification to the DoDeps. I understand now. Very interesting idea...

I know how to make the two dot 5x5x5 corners and the two dot 5x5x5 edges. I could design these parts for my DoDep kit very easily. The first would just be a 5x5x5 corner fuzed to the 3x3x3 corner below it. And the second would be a 5x5x5 edge fuzed to the 3x3x3 edge below it. Not sure how to deal with the Wings, T-Centers, and X-Centers as the 3x3x3 doesn't have these parts to fuze to. And I don't have a clue how to make any of the single dot parts except for the face center which I've already made.

When you say "I invented a new mechanism" you mean concept... don't you? Or do you know how to make a physical mechanism which can do this? It is a great addition to the similator and I'm happy to let you take credit for the concept.

Maybe have two types of credit possible...
Mechanism Credit - goes to who made the first physical puzzles with the mechanism the symulator is simulating.
Concept Credit - goes to who suggested the idea which is being simulated if the sumulator exists before the real physical puzzle/mechanism.

Has this idea been discussed before or under an different name? If so I missed it. If you do know how to physically implement all these ideas I'd love to see what you have in mind.

And for the record guys I was never upset... I just wanted to understand and you both have help with that greatly.
Carl

Concept Credit - goes to who suggested the idea which is being simulated if the sumulator exists before the real physical puzzle/mechanism.

all right. co-authors appears here!

Has this idea been discussed before or under an different name? If so I missed it.

we discussed this via Skype

If you do know how to physically implement all these ideas I'd love to see what you have in mind.

I was thinking about your concept of "DoDeep". this is not a new idea, she appeared before in other puzzles ...
but you were able to arrange it in a pure form and make a good set of puzzle games ;)

little research:
1. pleas see my "Stop Cube" and "Cross Road Cube"
viewtopic.php?f=15&t=25816
viewtopic.php?f=15&t=24260

if you draw instead "Stop signal" - square with 2 points
you get 3*3*3 DoDeep and 3*3*3 DoDeep Plus cube

2. please see my "Bingo Cube" and Oskar "Enabler Cube"
viewtopic.php?f=15&t=24259
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=24039
viewtopic.php?f=8&t=24137
viewtopic.php?f=15&t=24635

if you draw on special parts (edge or corners) - square with 1 points
you get 3*3*3 DoDeep Plus cube

3. please see my "Brick Cube" in this simulator
if you draw on special parts (edge or corners) - square with 1,2 and 3 points
you get 4*4*4 DoDeep Plus cube

I can now answer your question:
square with 1 points - you can use Oskar shifted-latch mechanism
square with 2 points - this is simple bandaged cubes :) see "Cross Road Cube"
square with 3 points - no any mech :) simple bandaged cubes

Oh... you are making me think too hard. I'll have to think about this more over the weekend when I have time to visualize all this. I actually have one of Oskar's Enabler Cubes. Its a very nice puzzle. At the moment its not obvious to me how to apply that mechanism to the 5x5x5 but maybe it will come to me.

However I see one of the puzzles in the simulator has a 5x5x5 edge with 2 dots on one face and 1 dot on the other face. If this edge is glued to the 3x3x3 edge below it then it must have 2 dots on both faces. Does the 2 dot on one face mean it is glued to the t-center opposite that face? I think so... I'll need to play with this for a bit to be sure... but if so I then know how to make all the two dot pieces.

Still thinking about the 1 dot pieces and I see you mention 3 dot pieces... the DoDep examples in the simulator didn't contain any of these so at the moment I'm not certain how a 3 dot piece behaves.

Should we start a DoDep Plus thread and take this out of the pCubes simulator thread? Simulating is one thing... I'm interested in how to make these real puzzles.

Carl

Yay! One problem I do have, though: the octahedral puzzles don't have a very good colour scheme. Red next to... slightly darker red? The megaminx has more than enough colours, so why not these?

Aside from that, it's still one of the best cube sims out there. Thank you!
