Group the wooden balls on both oval tracks.

It is not obvious from the picture, but some balls are joined together in pairs. In fact, the balles in a loop alternate between a single loose ball and a joined pair. This alternating order cannot be changed by mixing the puzzle.

The year was taken from the corresponding entry in the Lilly Library.
Images 4 and 5 proove that there were at least two different packagings.
