The inventor considered the Phoenix megaminx (see the separate entry) to be a nice puzzle, but was not very fond of the stickerless colour scheme, so he painted it black.
He wanted a simple looking design that showed off the new black cut lines. As he has done two, three, and four colour dodecahedrons, so he wanted to try a number that did not divide easily into twelve.
