This is a newer version of the Megaminx, published by Meffert, with tiles and 12 distinct colours.
The Megaminx originally entered production in 1982, but since its first incarnation its popularity has risen. In 1999, Uwe Meffert acquired the molds for the Megaminx and started production of what he says is the "most complicated Magic Polyhedron in production". The newer version, however, has tiles instead of stickers, a first for the Megaminx.
The Megaminx isn't much more difficult to solve than the Rubik's Cube, because although there are many more pieces (and many more combinations) the number of faces to turn allows you a great deal of freedom when much of the Megaminx is already solved.
