Utilizes a rails mechanism around an internal ball.
The Masterball uses a rails mechanism, supported by an internal ball. The internal ball has two fins that keep it fixed to one of the segments. Between adjacent segments there is a rail that holds them together. The rail has a clicking mechanism at each end to help keep it aligned with the segments. The internal ball has holes such that only one end of each rail lies above a hole, and only the clicking mechanism above that hole has enough room to move and release its segment. The holes in the internal ball are cleverly placed such that during any twist move the two rails involved will remain fixed to the segments in the same half of the puzzle as the segment that keeps the internal ball fixed.
