A 6x6x6 cube was first truncated into a cuboctahedron, and then extended out on all of the 6 uncut faces to make an octahedron, 144 extensions in total, 24 pieces for each side, afterwards the octahedron was truncated on all of its six points.
The resulting shape is named truncated octahedron, an archimedean solid.
