Looks like a 2x2x2 but it is a bandaged 3x3x3 in disguise.
Although this puzzle looks like a 2x2x2 it was made from a 3x3x3 which was bandaged like the Bandaged Cube from Mefferts. New pieces were glued upon the corners of the internal 3x3x3 giving it the look of a 2x2x2.
The plan is to hide the bandaging and challenge the use to solve a puzzle which bandagings he can't see.
Althought the idea was conceived by Noah Hevey and the first design was presented by Adam G. Cowan the first working sample was made without CAD by Joel Lamson mentioned here. He even assembled the first sample made with 3D-printing only two days after presenting this handmade sample.
