This is shape transformation is an incomplete corner truncation. As it would be done for a cuboctahedron all eight corners of the original puzzle are truncated but two corners not so deep as the other six. The resulting shape as six rectangles which explains the puzzles name.
Parallel to this sample the creator built a variant from a 4x4x4 which is named "Big Tri-Rectangle Twilighter".
