To build this variation the builder did the following:
1. He modified the puzzles shape to give the cube the shape of a shield. The pieces for this are well known from the Fisher cube.
2. He bandaged the 3x3x3 into a 1x3x3.
3. He truncated the shield-like sides to make them pillowed.
4. He applied several layers of coloured adhesive paper to resemble the coat of arms of sicily and the city of Messina.
