A deeper cut mixup cube transformed into an octahedron.

A puzzle which defies classification attempts like the original mixup cube. Compared with the mixup cube this puzzle has 24 additional pieces seen as wings between the edges and corners. These are a result of the cuts being deeper than the standard mixup cube. The eight faces have to stay in a 2x2x2-configuration for every move but the three equators may be moved by steps of 45. This allows the edges and corners to switch places with each other causing the shape of the puzzle to change similar to the mixup cube. The wing pieces also can get mixed up and rotated 180 degrees allowing a strange state in which the puzzle is solved for colour but not for shape.
In 2017 Witeden presented a series of new puzzles. The Mixup Octahedron was thereby reinvented under the name "Octahedral Mixup Cube". It was sold with black, blue and clear body.
