This is not the first transformation of a 3x3x3 into the shape of a square pyramid. Despite the first one (Cheops Cube) the axis system of the 3x3x3 was rotated.
The result is that all pieces of the puzzle are uniquely shaped. Therefore stickers are not needed for this puzzle and added only for aesthetic reasons. The first puzzle with this property was the Golden Cube.
