The Octopus is the first Teraminx modification ever made. This puzzle won the 1st place at the puzzle building event at Euro2010. 30 faces and 750 stickers.
The Octopus is a puzzle built by Radu Făciu. The idea was inspired by Tony Fisher’s V-Sculpture, which was a similar modification of a V Cube 7. On this puzzle, the centers of the teraminx are extended to enhence it’s look.
It has 30 faces, 750 stickers and of course 12 rotational axes. Due to the high costs and inconvenience to get 30 different colors, it was built with only 15 colours twice (on the opposite faces). So, it’s even more difficult to solve and has a parity.
The main steps were:
- Sculpting all the 30 borders of the Teraminx faces with a Dremel. Very careful not to go too deep into the mechanism.
- Filling every single piece with Epoxy.
- Extending the centers.
- Polishing and sanding the puzzle several times.
- Applying the 750 stickers! = 30face x 25 stck./face.
It was first presented on 1st October 2010 at European Rubik’s Cube Championship in Budapest and won the 1st place in the Puzzle Building Event.
The puzzle was inspected by Mr. Erno Rubik himself in Budapest.
