I'm very proud to present my second puzzle. I got into deepcut mechanisms and I wanted to see if I can do it. It's a simple one but for a first try it works well.
It is basically the first 10 segment 1 layer cheese. I found that the shape of rhombic icosahedron is a natural way of doing it because every rhombi is cut in half. This shape is also never used before for a twisty puzzle and I think it looks nice :) I don't know how much more the limit of FDM printing can be pushed. I got the tollerances wrong so it was a lot of work sanding it down. I used 0,4 mm but I sanded it to 1 mm maybe. The filleting of the internals was 1 mm but in the end is a LOT more. I also need a name for this :)

Edit: I forgot to mention the solve. It's not trivial and I can't solve it at the moment. It may present a good challenge :)

Very nice puzzle! I'm surprised that it works that well from an FDM printer. Good job! :D

Hi,
The shape is unique so far and (even better) very fitting to the mechanism.
What is its edge length and weight?

Edge length: 30 mm
Weight: 82 grams

About the solving. This sticker scheme makes the orientation of the pieces visible so I got to a situation where everything is in its place but 4 pieces are flipped. It's indeed a very good challenge :)

Thanks to pCubes I found 2 verry usefull algs for this puzzle and solved it at last :)
The first alg cycles 3 pieces. You rotate left and right side skipping 3 segments - total of 8 moves.
The second alg just flips 2 pieces. You rotete left and right side skipping 2 segments - total of 6 moves.
If someone is interested I can provide pictures from pCubes when I got home.

Yes. You can download them from my Thingiverse account http://www.thingiverse.com/jiroscop/about
The tollerances are improved so the puzzle should work with no postprocessing.
